What's wrong with the Travel niche?

I was hoping to start a site on the travel niche but lately I've come across some criticism regarding it. Some say high cancellation rates, some late payments and other such reasons. Can someone here tell me what exactly is wrong?

Have some sites in this niche and don't have the problems you are alluding to

If you don't mind, can I ask you what do you sell? Air tickets? hotel bookings?

I use Adsense and several travel affiliate programs found in CJ.com.

      Both pay on time.

There are a lot of areas to choose from in the travel niche. You need to decide of what part of the travel industry you want to be in.

This industry has just been hurt by the economy right now. The fares are high.

I've seen reports that they believe that maybe this year the travel industry will re-coop some interest. They are expecting more people to travel this year over the last couple of years.

So, if you choose the right part of the travel niche, you might be able to make some money.

Sometimes it's bettr to sell peripheral stuff, like adsense, where you get paid whether the customer goes on the trip or not!

In the California gold rush, it was the seller of mining supplies who made the most money, not the prospectors!

I haven't been totally able to explore the travel niche but I'm very interested in it. What options do I have in it? What kind of products can be sold?

Travel is always a good market - unless of course all world goes bananas with volcanoes!!!

More and more people travel everyday. Have you seen airplane tickets price? It's cheaper for me to go from Lisbon to UK, then from Lisbon to Oporto!!!

People travel more then ever - it's a huge market - and you have plenty of ways to make it profitable.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

I don't think so, traveling is just increasing, it will never decrease. And always it has a good market.

There will always be cancellations of hotel bookings and flights and it is mostly due to unforeseen circumstances rather than a change of mind. People who have been gearing up for a long-awaited vacation are not likely to change their plans suddenly. Travel is a good niche as it is not just vacationers who travel and need rooms and transportation. You will find that a big chunk of the market are business travelers. Targeting that market would be good as people travel more regularly on business than on vacations.
