Page Structure for Highest Conversions

Hello Warriors,

I am wondering if any of you have advice on where to place adsense ads and image ads within a page for higher clicks and conversions. i.e. to the left of the content, to the right of the content, etc.

Has anybody tested this?

it all depends on how the site looks really... do you have a link to the site you have in question?

I am trying to get this advice before I develop the site. Basically, on those pages where I want the ads, I will have informational content (article-type content), and the ads. That's all.

I have never worked with Adsense ads but if you can, I would suggest that you try it different ways and test it for yourself.

You may even have to vary it for each site.

I heard to the left of and above main content are the 2 "hotspots" for ads.

Here's what Google has to say about it.

From experience, use that as a guide, and if you have enough traffic, then split-testing is the key.

The hot spots in the page where the eyes travel are always in the upper-left hand side of the page.

Draw an imaginary line from the top-right to the bottom-left of your monitor, and everything above that line is where the users' eyeballs are most active.

You will need to split-test to figure out how to maximize that information for your benefit.

There are two themes for WordPress that I've found to work really well - that will layout the ads in an optimal way for a good CTR:

    1. ClickBump (cost $)
    2. ProSense (free)

And if you want to increase your conversion - blend the color of the ads.

Yes, that's the plan. I just want to start out with a page structure that I think should be pretty good instead of just putting ads at random locations on the page. But, yes, I will certainly test it.

Thanks. I didn't know Google had this guide. I was actually surprised about their comment on putting ads at the bottom after articles, but it actually makes sense (according to their explanation). I guess it's kind of like having ads at the bottom in place of a resource box (if someone doesn't want a resource box).

Great tip. I like the imaginary line method. Thanks.

I am actually considering putting both Adsense ads (text ads) and some image ads (that would link to affiliate products) on the same page. I don't know yet if that would be an overkill or not. Anybody has any thoughts on that, and on how I should position incorporate both kinds on the same page?

Thanks. I am not using WordPress, but blending the colors is certainly a good thing to consider.
