If you don't know where you are going, you wont recognize the road that takes you there....

I just want to take a minute and write something out that I feel can be of help to those among us who struggle with knowing how to find success.

First, it is important to define success on your own terms. For many, sitting around dreaming of pie in the sky, yachts, third houses on the beach and international travel represents success.

Your dreams may not be that extravagant. Maybe you just one want one house. Maybe you just want private school for your children. Or, maybe just to pay off the bills of your relatives. You may dream of writing large checks to your favorite charity.

These are honorable goals. These are all honorable things, even the yachts and travel. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have nice things and go fun places. So, in search for this seemingly perfect life, you beat your head on the wall relentlessly trying to make a buck.

However, you must not be deceived into thinking these things equal success!!

If you have defined success as a certain amount of money to be able to do certain things, you are missing the boat altogether. Sure, some people will get rich with this mindset but most will not.

If you have this mindset you will work very, very hard but feel as if you are spinning your wheels.

If you have incorrectly defined success, here is what your projects might look like.

1) You dream of your great future and get fired up.
2) You find a product or method or business idea that may bring you this future.
3) You get started working this idea furiously. You lay a TON of groundwork. You invest a TON of time. You are a MACHINE. You feel more disciplined than ever before.
4) Just when you are getting close to executing, you lose all motivation. You burn out. You fall flat.

If you have repeated this cycle over and over, you likely have an incorrect vision of success and how to get there. You see, dreams are a powerful motivator. Dreams are the most motivating things we have.

So, why did you lose motivation? Why did you stop? Here is the answer...

The idea of success you have painted in your mind does not match the blueprint of success that exists in your heart.

Please read that again.

Deep in your mind you have a blueprint that represents success. This blueprint was formed over the span of your entire life. You cannot alter this blueprint.

For some people, just the act of making a lot of money is the blueprint. These are the people we have all seen who can make anything profitable. It seems effortless.

For these people money IS the product of success.

For most of us, money is a BY-PRODUCT of success.

This is a very, very important distinction. The artist who wants to get rich will never be as wealthy as the one who wants to be the best artist he can possibly be. The artist who defines success as making money, will never be good enough to make any. The artist who defines success as being the best damn artist on the planet, will have money in piles.

What is the goal? The goal is to look deep into your thoughts and find your true blueprint for success.

A quick and dirty way to this is:

Fire up your imagination.
What actions will you be DOING when you are finally successful?
Whose life would you like to live?
Forget about money...what is your ultimate vision for a happy life?
What skills will you become competent in and practice daily?
What things would you LOVE to do for the rest of your life?

Use your imagination to paint a VERY clear mental image of your perfect, successful future. Don't leave anything out. Make it clear and vivid.

The image you come up with is your true heart vision of success. There is a lot more to this than can be typed here, but if you do this on a regular basis, you will be farther down the path than most.

Once you know your true heart vision of success, you know the destination for your life. Now you know what to learn. Now you know what to do. Do the things that will lead you to those skills that embody success. Ignore anything that takes you off that path. Be careful that you don't slip back into defining success as material things.

Always remember, success is defined by the skills you develop in creating your own perfect future. If you do this, you will make plenty of money and your life will be truly fulfilling!
