I study Flippa sales activity quite a bit and am always coming across transactions they make me think, "Why can't I do that?".

This one absolutely takes the cake.

How is this done?

I can see that domain name going for quite a bit. 1.5 mil is more than I would expect, but it is a great domain name, even with the hyphen.

Flippa is full of fraudulent bidders, especially on auctions whose seller has extremely high expectations on what their domain and site are worth. I'm certain the bidder is a fraud and the auction will be relisted, as this seems to happen a lot on Flippa from what I've observed.

True, but 1.5 mil is not unbelievable for that domain name. It is sitting at #12 on Google for "home business" searches. A little TLC could boost that.

Interesting the seller is listed as Stone Evans. I used to follow him somewhat when I was first starting out.

I think I first came in contact with him on one of those traffic clicking sites...

        Long time ago...

TPW sheds some great light on this. The deal must have been worked out in advance. But why pay Flippa $75,000 for facilitating a transaction that was already a done deal?

I mean, there were no other bids. Not even one.

In part, the site was owned by Stone Evans.

He has a long track record online, and it almost seems that everything he touches turns to gold.

He has a huge following, and he likely announced the sale of this domain to his list of what I can only guess is tens or hundreds of thousands of people interested in making money online.

Additionally, the domain name itself is prime: Home-Business.com

A lot of may not even realize that Stone Evans even has a sub-forum of his own here at WF (http://www.warriorforum.com/plug-pro...support-forum/). I gather than he and Allen go way back. In fact, I did not come here for the first few years it was open, because I mistakenly assumed that Warrior Forum was part of the Plug-In Profits Site empire, of which I was not a participant.

This is why I love Flippa. It could have sold for the 1.5 mil listed in the auction, or it could have been fraudulent bidding. What's even more likely is that the bidder put in the 1.5 mil to close the auction, then haggled with Stone after he'd won the auction. That's happened to me more times that I care to remember...

The message comes - "what was my winning bid? $500! I hardly think it's worth that... I'll give you $250." Flippa just works that way.

    12? i see it ranked 2.

Great domain plus ranking for search a term.

If that's not a fraudulent bid, whew - "The Home Biz Guy" cashed out on this one.

The "home business" market is definitely a HUGE market (yet also incredibly competitive, if not one of the most competitive online). If you know what you're doing, there is a lot of money to be made in it. Plus, lots of sub-niches to carve out and earn some nice coin within it as well.

      Yes but...

      400 uniques
      no revenue

That doesn't exactly scream $1,500,000. Does it?

Are the stats actually 100 times greater and, since the deal was already done, the seller just thought he would have some fun and create some buzz?

the buyer obviously saw something in it that we don't. Flippa still attracts a lot of people with money to invest in good looking online opportunities.

That is quite a sale but also a nice keyword/domain. The buyer is going to monazite the heck out of that!

If I was buying a website for $1.5 million, I would requires someone to escrow the deal, which Flippa does.

Otherwise, what protection would I have that Stone wouldn't screw me over? (I trust Stone Evans implicitly, but $1.5 million is a lot of money) LOL

I seriously doubt if the domain was purchased based on its current value, but rather its future value to the buyer.

    The rich get richer.

Of course, the value is in the domain as others have noted. But the price still seems high-no income is claimed. The buyer is really speculating here as their is no basis for actual value based on an existing ROI.

Now let's see... do I envy getting that sales price for that domain/site? Hmmmmm.

Yeah none of the stats were all that impressive. He clearly got it for the domain itself.
Of course there's also the possibility of it being a fake sale. Selling a site for that price is a reputation maker in itself. Faking it can be tempting.

When I click on the link it just redirects to the latest listings ... not that listing. Anyone else getting that? Also looked at all of the just sold listings and it is not there.

I bet 15 years ago this would be considered a mediocre domain name, what with the hyphen and all. Yes back then any hyphen was considered to reduce the domain's value by 10x. Now the internet has took off in such a way that people scramble for names like this, probably even at $1.5M.

You would probably be lucky to get $1000 for it 15 years ago.

        Times sure do change eh.

Yes, I'm getting that now too. I suspect they deleted it, due to it being a fake bid. It will most likely end up being relisted.

I wonder if the auction was taken down and the sale didn't actually happen as the link doesn't work anymore?
