LOL!

I understand its only a slight difference, but it will matter for sure, because the one I choose to use will not only going to be used online, but for offline print as well, on letterheads and business cards, etc.....

  I think the actual 3D effect of the first one is lost, in the way its displayed with the light box, because it looks much clearer when viewed inside of Adobe Illustrator....

  99% of people use them completely wrong and it looks extremely amateurish. Just because you can click one button in Photoshop and have an instant effect, doesn't mean you should.

I agree. You should steer clear of drop shadows in corporate logos like this that are going to be printed on your stationery. Drop shadows are fine for sticking behind your headlines or making images pop off the webpage, but when it comes to offline printing, flat images look much better and more professional.

I also tend to agree that the tree should just be a solid color without the little white speckles in it.

Out of logos that are now up there, excluding the first one, which do you like, someone suggested getting rid of the texture inside the tree, but I actually think it adds some character to the logo, what do you think?

Personally, I'd leave the white sprinkles but perhaps place them a little more strategically. They help give character as well as breaking up a rather large patch of just colour.

Here's a logo to get your juices flowing. If you are selling design services maybe you should be showing more of your design capabilities in your logo than just a tree with some words under it? I mean the logo looks fine but it's not really displaying much of your creative abilities...

When I am going to create a logo like your one, if I know I want to use a tree in it or something like that, I will usually first go to Google images and type in something like 'tree logo' and have a look through all the images that come up. You will usually find some creative ideas you hadn't necessarily thought of.

Example: What do you think of this?

Another vote for the right-side logo. If you print in black/white or monochrome or in the corner of an envelope, the 3D effect will be gone anyway.

  I think so too, I like the 3rd one as someone mentioned your eyes are pulled to the text easier, but #2 so far in my opinion is the one I think I will use.......

3rd one, of course.

Drop shadows are good in sales letters, etc (that too, if used properly). I'd stay away from them when doing designing for corporate stuff, as much as possible. I recently got a logo and some other stuff created from 99Designs and in most of the logos, the drop shadow was done terribly.

3rd one, hands down!

I like the depth given to the tree with the cutouts in the middle. The third one does work better for simplicity sake, but I do prefer the second one best.

To me? The middle. The one on the right, in print, will look a bit too smooth for my tastes. The one on the left has some detail that may not look good in print. The dark spots adjacent to the open spaces, to be specific.

The center one seems to have more of a balance. It's a small thing, but it stood out that way to me immediately.
