Do you get traffic from Reddit?

I get some traffic from many different social sites. However I also only use onlywire to post to many of these site. I then hit them again with ping fm. This is also pretty much already done for me the second I make a post on my site. So I do not have to bother going from site to site. So yes you can get some traffic from reddit but do not expect entirely too much. After all it is just a social bookmarking site.

But if you have a good strategy that works on dig then you should be able to use that strategy on reddit as well and do rather well.

Well, there are a number of bookmarks with some high votes. Anyone managed yo get many votes? Does traffic increase the higher the votes?

I'm thinking more about using these social bookmarking sites to create interest and buzz, rather than just submit and forget.

Funny you should ask.

Just last week I ran a test with Reddit by posting just one of my links for a project on there site. The link that I posted has the ability to go viral in my opinion. However, within 24 hours I had almost 577 hits to a site that generally only gets between 50 & 70 hits in a day.

That trend did not keep up with just one article, but I believe this clearly does show the advantages of social bookmarking especially on high PR sites like Reddit though that certainly isn't the only place I personally recommend targeting.

Info graphics have always been the way to get a lot of traffic on these bookmarking sites. No-one is going to care if you have made a new website on pancake recipes. They want a informative info graphic saying how pancakes improve your health and vision or a funny twist on it. If you can appeal to the audience a lot of traffic can be gained because you offered them value.

Test it out and see if you A) get traffic and B) that traffic converts. Digg converts better for me but I don't spend much time trying to drive traffic from Reddit either.

I usually get a couple of visits a day from Reddit for each of my sites. Nothing huge, but enough to make it worth my while to put a link there whenever I have something new.

Yes, Reddit is a very good source of backlink also. It has a high page rank. You can also use social networking sites to get traffic. Try Twitter or Facebook.

You can't just make an account at Reddit, post a link, and watch the traffic roll in.

But if some established Redditer (Reddite? Red Menace? Reddude? what are they called anyway?) links to your page, you'll get loads of traffic. These guys spend all day on Reddit with nothing to do, so they all check out each others' links.

Best of all, because of the sub-reddits, the traffic can be targeted. So one link on Reddit can get you links from other bloggers/webmasters.

Unfortunately, there are no buyers on Reddit, but if it's links, traffic, and buzz you're after, you can get it if you can convince some Reddison to link to you.

Normally the day that I submit something on reddit I get some traffic to my sites, but nothing much after that. I submit my sites to most of the bookmarking sites, and lately I have noticed quite a bit of traffic from tagza.com

Are you serious? I thought the recommendation sounded interesting so I tried it, did not get a single visit. Also noticed when I went back at least a day later that exactly the same really crude post was right on top of the front page with the same 84 up votes. Totally baffled. The only thing that would make sense to me is if the site happens to be yours and you are trying to promote it? I'm not saying that's the case, but how can something like that bring traffic?

Edit: I just wanted to apologize to mgpweb, but didn't want to bump the thread up with no info about the main topic. There a few mentions on the site about still working out the bugs and that sort of stuff, and that is probably what happened with my first listing there. Tried my second today and I'll take a little time before I open my big mouth again. Her comments sound good.

I don't know much about Tagza, I use them as a backlink and all I know is that from my analytics I am getting about 10 visits from them a day, a lot better then Reddit where I am only getting visits on the day I submit my site. And No Tagza is not my site and I am not affiliated with it in anyway.

Redditors have the ability to down vote and it is even encouraged. One of the humor sections mentions "unfunny stuff will be down voted mercilessly."

If the first 2 votes are down votes, that is enough to take your link off the page. You can sometimes have a good page and get a couple of nasty people in a bad mood for the first 2 votes, and that's it for traffic from reddit to that page.

Some of them don't like pages with ads on them. A lot of the bookmarks there are just to photos with nothing else on the page. I have no idea why anyone wants traffic to something like that.

I've probably had about 40,000 visitors from reddit, but mostly to a site doesn't have much of a chance of making money. Mostly it just entertains.

And keep in mind that the readers there are looking for entertainment, not a product recommendation.

I was testing last night, I wanted to see how many votes are needed to see a natural traffic increase. I created a bot to register accounts and vote up. I had no links on reddit, so I had no option but to generate accounts to test with.

I done about 60 accounts, got to about 30 points. It started to grow naturally but traffic wasn't relative to the votes I was getting. It seems some people don't even click.

Will do a bit more testing with infographics and few other tactics today.

I get some traffic from Reddit, but I've noticed that the bounce rate and time on site are significantly worse for these visitors than for visitors from other sources. Not sure if this would apply across niches, but it's worth keeping an eye on.
