I have a word document with links in it, but when I convert it to PDF, my then link weren't clickable.

How do I fix that?

Arjen, which converter are you using? When I ran into the same problem as OP, I was in a time crunch, and the quick fix was to use open office instead of Word. I am still using the quick fix...

      Hi Hugo,

What version of Word are you using?

I have an old version (2003) and, you're right, the text links aren't clickable. Later versions of Word may have addressed this issue.

You could use a free program, Open Office:

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite

Open Office is a large file, and duplicates most of Word, so you might prefer this specialist PDF creator (again, it's free) :

ewriterpro downloads - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET

Both these programs will convert your text links with no problem.

Frank, I attempted to download eWriter Pro 2.0 Download and got as far as a 301 error message.... The site is full of google ads disguised as download buttons. Finding the real download button is not easy. After downloading, I was instructed to get a free registration code by entering my first name and email. Well, somebody has my email now but I don't have eWriter Pro 2.0

Oops. Sorry to hear that - it was the first result G came up with.

          Try this link:

ewriterpro downloads - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET

I've been using the program for a couple of years and recommend it - if you can ever get to download the thing!

          Frank

EDIT: I've replaced the link in the other post

LOL. I think that link's okay (fingers crossed).

I'm pretty sure I obtained my copy from Will Edwards (White Dove) but since then, I haven't been able to find it on his site. There are some vendors reselling it for $9.97, but I assumed the OP would prefer a free download.

Hope that link works for you.

Frank I had to do a search on the White Dove Book site and found it here: Personal Development Store

Good news is that the CNET link worked - that's a first for me. I was able to download, and just did a one sentence test ebook with link. Converted to pdf and link is intact and working.

So there you go, Hugo G. At least a text link is working in that free download. When I attempted to load a .jpg image, it did not work. It is prompting me for .bmp images and I don't have any of those. I have been saving all my screenshots for my ebooks as .jpg Yikes!

Thanks for the White Dove info, Diane, although I don't recall paying for it on that site.

Anyway, not to prolong the eWriter Pro discussion unduly, I should point out that I've never had an issue with uploading .jpg images - and I've used the program to produce hundreds of reports and ebooks - so I'm not sure what's going wrong with your version. Do you not see a drop down menu when inserting an image?

Glad you got the download, though.

No, there is not a drop down menu. Perhaps this free copy I have does not allow images to be inserted?

Hugo, not trying to hijack the thread, trying to share info. Looks like if you don't need to insert images, just text links, the cnet link for a free version of eWriterPro v2 will meet your immediate needs.

    Hello,
beside making the links clickable it is always a good idea to spell out the full url inside the pdf as most people do not have it configured to work properly.

    Something new soon.

I guess I shouldn't comment because I've never used your software, but I can recommend Open Office. It's free, you can write out your document and edit its appearance as you like, then convert it to PDF with one click, links kept intact.

Thank you very much for everything warriors... The only problem is that indeed is charging 9.97, where do I get the link of the free version Diane?

    Thanks.

Word 2003 by itself won't usually create a pdf file. I'm using 'DeskPDF" which installs much like a printer (in fact, it shows in the print menu) and all of my links are clickable in the resultant pdf file. Bear in mind that I'm using word 2003, and bought deskPDF about 5 years ago (or maybe more).

Another way to do it (already mentioned by previous posters) is to use Open Office. It provides a Microsoft Office compatible series of applications, and creates PDF files without an external app like DeskPDF.
