Please Critique My Obama Products Site, Suggestions...

Hi,

A few weeks back, I posted asking for suggestions on what to do with parked domains.

The other day I picked up a WSO on making ebay affiliate sites.

Well I am still waiting to be approved for the ebay affiliate program, but in the meantime, I have learned so much about rss and wordpress, it is going to help all my blog sites.

But this is the site I need some advice on:

1 How does it look?
2 Suggestions to promote, (already plan on writing many articles, the topics today on this subject are endless)
3 How can I add and improve it,

I wasn't sure about that either, but I don't like merchandise, that suggests buying before they even look at the page.

I'll have to look into more words for that.

Hi Laurie,

I'm new so I can't really help with how to promote but I did notice this 1 thing...

I think the side bar on the left sticking up doesn't look very good. Shouldn't it be in line with the red menu bar above "cool obama items"? I'm looking at it with Firefox 3, BTW, so you know.

It is still a fairly new site, just put it up the other day, so it isn't getting too much traffic yet.

I just made the adsense to blend in with the template.

Laurie, you should get Obama bobble-heads made with Barack dressed as Robin Hood.

You would make a killing with those things among Republicans.

Hehehe. But the Robin Hood costume would easily quadruple the price. Especially if you had a companion Donald Trump bobble-head and had the Obama Hood bobble-head sneaking up behind him and reaching in his pocket.

Laurie, your website has no content whatsoever. Maybe at the top of the page you could add some content including your "unique selling point". Let people know why they should buy from your website and give some background information on the obama family and the presidential election. This would really help to boost your credibility. If you need any help just pm.

I already have 3 articles written to be submitted to ezine articles leading to the site. I also will implement an signup list, to distribute ongoing content. I don't know, I have followed the advice of a wso I recently purchased.

The ideas is to get them to the site, to buy on impulse or sign up with an id at Ebay, and earn through the affiliate link.

Ultimately, I will be selling my own ebook and book to this list, I am planning to write a biography about Barack slanted toward young biracial children.

Laurie,

Not a bad looking site at all. You can promote Obama for the next 4 years and maybe 8 if he is re-elected.

I want to say that you have a great site except for a few things. Like Abby said, the left sidebar is not in line with the horizontal red bar. That was the very first thing I noticed.

Second, you can write articles for each section to get SEO rankings. Your articles can come first and then the items second or you can integrate the two like a newspaper. That way you can use social bookmarking to send more people to your site.

For example: Michelle Obama Books, just write something about her. Where she went to school? How the two met? etc...

Well im pretty sure you've heard the phrase "Content is King". You dont have any content on your website. Since this is a brand new website you need to have convincing content in order to gain trust in your viewers and in return, have them purchase your products and subscribe to your list.

What I mean by content is simply plain text. It's kinda like how an article contains just plain text and not adsense ads and merchandise to purchase. Maybe you should add your article to the top of your web page just to give some information. Try to visit some other Obama mechandise websites and see if you can tell the difference on why they would convert compared to your site.

Thanks for all your suggestions, you guys. I knew there was a reason I didn't want to put it in the root directory, today I was thinking, maybe I should put a forum, in the index.

Maybe something like Families Following The First Family Obamas, or something like that. Please help me come up with a catchy theme.

Then I could bring traffic on a regular basis, and put links to the various pages in the products section dispersed in the forum.

I need a script for a forum that has the social bookmarketing interactivity, that is the way to go these days, are there any like that in the Fantastico part of the CPanel? Recommendations from anyone?

Anyone interested in partnering with me on this forum idea?

What do you like about them?

What do you expect he'll do as President?

What do you think Michelle Obama will be like as First Lady?

What do you think having a young family in the White House will do for the country?

--- it's all about YOUR take on this subject, and if you want others to comment on your blogging about the subject.

Only showing the products is, to me anyway, a big turnoff! It really looks like you're just cashing in on the wave (even though you are, you shouldn't make it LOOK like that's what you're doing!).

So -- that's my 2 cents!

Gotcha. Thanks for replying to the question. I heard that white links cut down on the clicks but wasn't sure if it was true.
