Should I Leave Blogger?

This might be a silly question, but would my blogs be more profitable if I left blogger and set up my own site on wordpress and threw in some affiliate links? I've got my blogger blogs monetized with Adsense, but I don't think I've made anything off of them. I'd have more control over my content and affiliate links and other monetization options, too, wouldn't I?

I think of my own blogger sites as a place I can add extra content in a focal area and sometimes link out to my other content. I do get adsense revenue. For example, today i had one click work $2.22. Not a lot, but add it up over time and it was certainly worth my initial effort.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

      In a word...yes.

By using blogger you are limiting yourself and running the risk of losing everything. Say you build up this nice blog bringing in a tidy amount of money a month, and then blogger changes their rules and decides your blog is no longer welcome. Say bye bye to your income (and this has happened to many people).

If you have your own site, you never need to fear someone else deciding on what you can have on your site and how you can monetize it. Honestly it only cost like $8 for a domain name and then $5-$10/month for hosting. Blogger is great as kind of a practice ground or to use to add links to your main site, but not a good idea to host your money page there.

Host the blog yourself rather than relying on Google. They can remove your blog for various reasons, some of which are not under your control. If you self-host, you're safe. You don't have to go far to find horror stories of people losing out because of Google banning a blog.

You definitely have more control when you have your own site, and yes you could increase your monetization efforts as well.

Best of luck with your sites

Monetization options are better on your own site, as are design and layout options. And, as noted, you won't have to worry about waking up one day to find that Blogger has removed your site for some reason.

I think that self-hosting presents a more professional face as well.

I don't know if you should leave blogger, but perhaps start your own blog(s) on your own domain. You could always point the blogger blogs to your own blogs once you get some posts in place.

Short term, blogger is fine, but if you want to get serious, the few dollars it takes to have your own domain and hosting is worth what you can do down the road.

More control with own site but harder to get rid of spam. I dont know why and it is unscientific but one of my blogger sites is terrible for SEO while the same subject is high on my own WP install. Most hosts now make it easy to setup WP now as well and can be less than $3.50/mn. Check out link below for one.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

    Hi,
Really blogs are more profitable but depends on what you blog and
Where you post your blog and visitors to the blog make profit
Not to leave your blog and better change any of above mentioned points

I started out with Blogger blogs. I found them very easy to set up, very easy to monetize.

I've only ever in 5 years, lost 2 of them, both of which did violate Bloggers TOS, I just didn't know that at the time.

I have several that make money, and one good money maker.

When the good money maker became profitable I was worried about the exposure of leaving it on Blogger, but didn't want to have to work and wait for new search engine rankings for a brand new site.

I found a solution that lets me use Blogger blogs all day long to test out niches. If they become profitable, I can move them without losing any of the rankings or link juice I worked for.

Check my sig to see how.

You should really leave blogger and migrate to Wordpress. Self-hosted Wordpress.

I use Weebly, personally. I don't like any websites runned by google, since they require me to give them my phone number which is information I don't want in their hands.
