Hi i am really new to IM and just wanted to start with amazon review site, however i have really tight budget (hosting and domens are most part).
Was hoping that someone maybe could help me with some tips like is there some usable free solution on wp plugins and templates, or some cheap versions.

There are a heap of free plugins I use for my sites but none of them really do anything specifically amazon related.

What do you need these templates/plugins to do exactly? If you're more specific then people may be able to assist you better.

Amazon provides everything you need free of charge. You can even build a store that looks just like an e commerce store. Thats all free inside Amazon Associates.

There are 2 types of Amazon review sites:
        1. Where you get search engine traffic related to a product keyword
        2. Where you get general (non-product related) traffic and try to convince them that a product is the answer to their problems
If your plan corresponds to #1 (to simply review products), your goal should be to get them off your site as soon as possible via a link to Amazon. Everything you do on your site should encourage them to click the link and check out Amazon's sales page(s). Anything else is just muddying the water.

I do best with a simple theme and in-body text links (with one image linked to Amazon). Plugins and fancy themes don't seem to help me at all.

ty jayschmidt i was thinking on option #1 and was looking on some simple theme that can suit me best for amazon review site that is either free or cheap (as i dont have much money to spend atm )
i already have some domain that i bought while was researching some keywords and now just waiting to get some decent theme and if needed some plugins (was thinking on that with small pic of product and how much stars have on amazon from other peoples review)

but as i am really new to this i accept suggestions

          cheers

Use a free template for your site, for now. You could try using Amazons aStore if you wish - here's an example - Best Smartphone Deals

You might want to try product names as keywords.

If you're really new then have a look around this site. There's traffic to think about, keyword research and more to learn.

            Good luck with it.

Yep, one tip is to write top # lists, instead of creating them as posts, make them as a page. Nothing fancy, just make your own tables with each product having it's own affiliate link and image linked. You should add these very slowly, say after you do # normal reviews on very similar products, or once a year, you could update them say quarterly.

You may want to consider the flexibility theme.

Don't sweat the "theme thing" until you figure out everything else about your site.

It is the most irrelevant part in your website's success...

  • seems a shame when your main goal is to get traffic only to have them click off your website having not really gained anything from it. Only that you get a commission out of it. That is if you are looking to get rid of that traffic straight to amazon.

Despite the fact these sites work, I really do question their life-span. On the other hand, if your site is purely dedicated to that product range and the tasks you can do with it, whilst including an opt-in form to inform others of upgrades or new methods of using that product, I think unless amazon pull the plug somewhere, you shouldn't have any problem getting sales or worries from google taking action on these very easy and blatant amazon review affiliate sites.

It's not that its wrong... but in my eyes I can't do it because it feels like I'm cheating myself, like I'm not really helping anyone or achieving anything other than earning some money.

On the other hand, if I decide to make a website about weight gaining powders from amazon I wouldn't just make one small review for each powder and then provide as many ways to click out to amazon as possible. I'd probably make a review post, a post detailing how and when to use that specific powder, why its good or bad, and what else can be had with it etc.

Add an opt-in form, and later those users who have interacted with your site, travelled to amazon too but have opted in you can then build a relationship. Maybe add a few muscle gaining posts, rank the powders in order, have the users take part and then possibly recommend some good muscle building affiliate programs to your users.

I just don't see the point in creating space on the internet (in this case some hosting and a domain name if you are only going to use it to get people to click right off) when if all your looking to get is a click from your traffic instantly I think it would be more appropriate for people to do it through an article and then use as most article sites state in their TOS that you can not link directly to an affiliate link but you can have a top level domain name that forwards to that affiliate link, in this case your amazon product.

I agree with your Mindset Jason. I like to add videos and other things to add to the user engagement, but still employ high click through tactics such as referring them to read the rest of a review (which brings them to the amazon review page). There is a balance to achieve.

I say write your own content if you have an amazon aff account... use the twenty ten theme and make your own header and make sure you have your privacy policy etc. I have a lot of wp amazon plugins and the only sites any where near page one are the ones I write my own content for.

Almost every plug in I know are free...and yes Amazon provides the tool you need for building an e-store. Just browse in Google for a free simple and easy to customize theme and dont over think in the which and which of your new site.
