Position yourself as an expert

To succeed in the internet marketing business you must position yourself as an expert. The people that succeed online are the ones that are positioning themselves an expert.

This is because they are willing to teach people success and people want to learn from them.

Yes I agree the Idea of positioning yourself to succeed. Thank for the reminders. This can help a lot.

You can only position yourself as an expert if you are an expert. If not you will be caught out and thrown out in no time.

Sorry, but this is absolutely false.

Most of the successful people in IM are not well-known - some are completely underground and you'll probably never hear of them.

Others have businesses which don't require any communication or dealings with partners, students, customers, or clients.

    For instance...
PPC experts don't need to be well-known to be successful.
Copywriters don't need to be well-known in order to be successful (although many of the top copywriters become well-known due to their awesomeness).

A willingness to teach others is absolutely not a prerequisite for success in this field. In fact, it has nothing to do with the level of success one achieves in IM unless it is part of one's definition of success within the IM context.

I could be. If my sig said "writer" (which it did at one point), I wouldn't be positioning myself as an expert, would I? I don't think manager necessarily means expert. It just means managing is what I do.

But I digress. The claim I was refuting was the one which states "The people that succeed online are the ones that position themselves as experts" (or "You must position yourself as an expert to be successful online").

The fact that there are successful (whatever that means) people online that position themselves as experts does not contradict my position.

Yes, I agree with this. It all depends on your business. If you're in network marketing, or want to sell your own ebooks, it helps to have a personal brand, but to sell the other 99% of stuff out there requires no leadership skills at all!

I think if you want to sell anyone pretty much anything you need to be an "expert." Who wants to buy a product or service from someone who doesn't know what they are doing? Exactly.

Doesn't matter if its online or offline sales. If you don't at least appear to know your stuff nobody is going to buy from you. Branding yourself pretty much means becoming an authority on whatever it is your selling.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

The marketers in the forum know who the experts are in this business. Just my two cents. That's if you want to teach. I just want to crawl in my hole and stay there. And when I need some money crawl out and make some.
