Running a blog site is not a cheap venture

I have a blog niche site. One site in the men's health niche. I'm monetizing using Affiliate Marketing (Clickbank) and Adsense.

So far I'm making ZERO. And yet I've spent hundreds of dollars in tools, articles, promotion.

Then I read how to do Article Marketing right by reading Alexa's posts. So I started on that and it will cost me $1,000 a month. ($30 a day for 1,000-1,200 word article)

Then I gotta do Press Release, writing high quality articles as guest blogger for those who syndicated my articles. Then I have to produce decent to good quality video for doing Video Marketing right. Then there are hosting, aweber, vps, membership costs as well as the assistant and outsource traffic costs.

I'm scared that all of these will result to nothing. I'm scared that after 6 months, I don't make money on this project and I've wasted thousands of dollars.

I wish there are other ways to make money online that don't cost as much. I wish there are other sources of cash online I could tap onto to help offset the cost of running my blog business.

Are you getting any traffic to your site from your promotion? If so, you probably need to find out why its not converting before you continue to spend more money (eg. Have you found the right keywords?)

Most start off doing everything themselves... This way you just have to spend money on a URL and hosting. Start to outsource when you can afford it!

Why are you spending that amount of money? Write your articles and press releases yourself and do your own backlinking. There is an enormous amount of information in this forum to guide you.

But, before all that, how many visitors is your website receiving? Are you and your written material even targeting the right "buying" keywords?

Maybe I'm wrong, but you sound like someone who has bought all the courses, but in reality aren't implementing anything from them in the correct way. Spending thousands of $$ on courses won't benefit you one iota if you jump from one to the other and learn little from any of them.

You need to pick one course that you like and feel you can work with, learn how to find a few high quality, "buying" keywords, write your own material and do your own backlinking.

That's why I don't throw in money in ventures if I'm not 99% sure that they will yield return. The most money I spend on my business is monthly Hostgator subscription and domain costs. I'd invest, but only if I knew I will get return.

Sorry to hear you're doing it THAT way.

Truth is, you can do it with your own work and keeping expenses to a minimum - hosting and domain name.

Sure you'll have to write content, create backlinks, syndicate content, etc on your own free time, but you'll just have to pay 100$-150$ per year to keep it going.

MORE: IF you had chosen a smaller market with just a few competitors, you'll be able to start slow, make some pocket money, and then scale things up and perhaps move into more competitive markets.

Just my 2 cents, hope you get your things right.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

I'm sure I need not state the obvious here but, stop spending money.

Why do you need to pay money? Do you not know how to research and create content? If not, then I would do a forum search and start doing some studying.

Then I gotta do Press Release, writing high quality articles as guest blogger for those who syndicated my articles. Then I have to produce decent to good quality video for doing Video Marketing right. Then there are hosting, aweber, vps, membership costs as well as the assistant and outsource traffic costs.
Whoa there roadrunner, you have to learn to walk before you can run, focus on learning to actually create the content yourself first.

First, in regards to press releases, they are only useful if you have something newsworthy(Nothing self promotional) to report, nor are they guaranteed to bring you any traffic.

You do not actually need to create custom content for every single website that syndicates your content, only create custom content for the sites that actually deliver visitors to your website, Google analytics can help you determine which ones do. Also, you can contact the blog owners and offer to email them your content and save them time finding it themselves.

Video marketing isn't necessary, although it can help your on-page SEO by keeping your visitors staying on your website longer. But for the moment, I would concern myself more with learning how to create content first and master it before moving to video.

As far as hosting and email management is concerned, this stuff is cheap. It's only when you start getting thousands of visitors visiting your blog daily that you have to get VPS's and dedicated hosting, but that won't be for quite a while so don't worry about it.

As far as outsourcing traffic generation is concerned, if you create engaging and informative content then your readers will do all your link building and SEO related stuff for you.

I'm scared that all of these will result to nothing. I'm scared that after 6 months, I don't make money on this project and I've wasted thousands of dollars.
I know it is hard but you have to take that leap of faith and not be afraid of failure, look at it as a learning experience. Most successful business people never hit the miracle home run the first time around, it took them multiple shots before they started succeeding.

You have to spend money to make money. You could start out offering a service such as content creation.

Respectfully and please don't take this the wrong way but if, as you appear to be, you are outsourcing everything, What are you doing to create this business.

Alexa writes all her own articles, I was just wondering why you're not.

Doing things yourself, when your unsure if something will work or not, is not only a good way to learn but a lot less money.

      Excellent advice, buddy!

      To OP:

Here's one thing I would want to add here.

"Don't chase money...Chase something BEYOND money"

Trust me, money will come eventually. Do what you love.

I started out doing everything by myself that I even lost a lot of my weight due to lack of sleep and skipped meals but I didn't regret anything and all the hard works paid off. I started outsourcing when I realized that I am earning and needed to expand my deals.

It sounds like you've been given bad advice.

If you're running a business where you're spending money before you've made any and have no idea whether what you're doing will make you any money or not - You need to STOP.....

    That's a recipe for failure.

You're supposed to build your business gradually only spending money AFTER you've made it.

You wouldn't try to farm a field of crops by planting them one day and then digging them up a week later - some things take time and cultivation.

You don't need to buy ANYTHING in order to start making money.

You don't even need a website to make money - so there's NO need to spend any money at all until you make some.

    My advice: (fwiw)

Stop spending and strip back what exactly you're trying to achieve and look at your plan in the cold light of day and ask yourself if your expectations arerealistic.

Do NOT take ANY actions that you don't know the purpose and impact of.

MEASURE / TEST / TRACK EVERYTHING!!!!!

You can't build your business without knowing what impact different actions have.

Just doing 'stuff' and 'seeing what happens' is a recipe for spending all your money before you create a decent income.

Don't waste your money getting articles written in the hope that you'll get enough traffic to get a trickle of income in. Even if that does happen - you won't really understand why and you'll end up on a treadmill of playing the numbers game and having to work your nuts off creating stuff in order to keep the money coming in - this is called a job and rapidly loses it's attraction once you've sucked yourself into a system you don't like but can't stop because it needs you.

At least that way you won't be letting yourself in for Clickbank's $1 "stocking fee".

    iwork,

Starting a business online should not be thought of any different than a business offline.

You start with an initial investment, slowly and carefully finding out on what and how to use that investment to make money. Then if you have success in a particular way of doing things, you reinvest a portion of your profits back into the business.

Throwing money into a wishing well is entertainment, not business.
Try to think of it AS a business.

There is a lot of trial and error in anything
Error can pay, as long as you learn to not repeat it.

    I genuinely wish you luck
sounds like your at least trying

If you have done your keyword research right and are targeting keywords with low competition but reasonable search volume, writing articles and posting them on your blog will actually work quite nicely to attract targeted traffic to your blog.
Monetize it with some affiliate products.
