Wordpress.com links to your own landing page

I know that wordpress.com prohibits affiliate links.

"In addition to AdSense-type ads, please do not use the following services on your blog: sponsored / paid posts including PayPerPost, ReviewMe, and Smorty; affiliate / referral links to the following domains: usercash, clickbank, clickhop, cashrocks, payingcash; clicktrackers (and any similar) and any promotion of the "I made a million on the internet and so can you" type of advertising (i.e. MLM, network marketing, cash gifting, etc.)."

Do you think this applies only to direct links to the affiliates?

Do you think that if you link to a landing page on an your own external site which contains a review and then a call-to-action button (which has the affiliate link), that would be ok?

Just wondering.

so is the wordpress blog getting so much traffic that a link to your sales/review page is to take advantage of this traffic or is it for a link for seo purposes?

I'm guessing you are not self hosting your blog?

I'm kind of confused with this post. Almost everyone I know including myself who uses wordpress loads them up with affiliate links, banners, ads etc

If you have any commercial use for your blog at all, it is best to host it yourself! Wordpress.com is notorious for shutting marketers down, but when you host wordpress on your own server, you control what you post and are not limited by the Wordpress.com police.

No; it won't be ok at all.

It will be breaching wordpress.com's terms of service, as is anything done there with commercial intent, regardless of whether it's an affiliate-link or not. All it will take is one competitor to flag your blog there and they'll delete it immediately.

It's for hobby/social bloggers only. Nothing commercial, nothing monetised, and nothing designed to generate traffic to another site (including your own landing-page). No self-serving links! :p

That's on their own sites. There's also a site called wordpress.com where they'll host free wordpress blogs (very limited range and limited functions) as long as they're hobby/social/family sort of blogs only. Nothing with any commercial intentions, including self-serving links.

Thanks guys. My question was prompted by me noticing that the wordpress.com site had a search bar that let's you search across all their websites. Plus, I think wordpress.com also has a tag cloud that'll query for related posts.

So I was thinking that free wordpress.com blogs could be good sources of traffic if I could send them to my money site.

Avoid putting affiliate link on free wordpress, or poorly spinned copied content. They will kick you out without any explanation. Invest in money to buy domains, you'll get it back soon.
