Security For Your IM Business

I've read a few posts recently on guys dropping serious Google ranks for all their sites. Now I don't know why they dropped ranks suddenly, but I'd like to hear what others do regarding the following:

Firstly using the same Google Analytics account for all your sites:
Any thoughts on this. I mean I'm talking about if you run 50 sites. I saw a thread recently which said it was better to use a few different accounts so that you don't leave a footprint for Google.

Hosting:
Splitting your sites up among a few accounts rather than using the same one to host them all? Again I guess a footprint for Google.

I mean if you are running an honest site you would think you have nothing to worry about, but the thing is, what will Google penalize next?

Do you think they may ever start nailing you for using linking services?
If you're using the same hosting account or Analytics account they would soon identify that all of your 50 sites have links from similar places.

Just a few thoughts I had as I was drifting off to sleep last night....

I've heard this mentioned a lot by black hat SEO's, which makes sense since if you're doing black hat then you wouldn't want Google to be able to identify all of your sites.

For white hats I don't see any problem with it. We have 50 profiles in one account, which is linked to 2 other profiles that each have almost 50 profiles in them, total of about 130ish websites that are all linked to the same GA login. Never had any problems with it.

This actually makes sense for a white hat seo, mostly if you are interlinking your sites as Google looks at the IP address of every site linking to you and gives less weight to sites on the same C-block.

If you aren't interlinking sites then I don't think there's really any harm in having them on the same hosting account.

I think this really depends on the quality of the linking service you use. If you buy one of those "10,000 backlinks for $5" packages, chances are you'll get busted since you're basically buying crap links from linkfarms. But those links are also pretty worthless in terms of link juice anyways, so it's not like you'd really gain much.

For quality links, I don't think they'd nail you since it would be hard for them to identify whether you've hired a service or are just acquiring links naturally.

  • Thanks for the great feedback.
I must say the above was things I had never even thought of before, but just saw on a few other threads (but not as the main topic of conversation).
