I don't think the big boys understand the power of the new media. I'm a small fish and I don't think it's unrealistic that I can net 3,000 new visitors to my site per day (with maybe 2,000 repeaters) in the fairly near future. Now think about that:

At 3,000 new visitors per day, that's over a million NEW visitors per year. Good night - that's a point on the Nielsen Ratings chart!

So where are the advertisers banging on my front door to get my business? And why don't we new media folks have Grammy's and Tony's and Golden Globes?

No, seriously, in time my little blog will probably have more influence than a lot of sitcoms. So why doesn't anyone in corporate American care?

Well, since I'm getting philosophical, I have another question for all you pointy-headed people out there:

Have any of the big new media guys actually put out internet video, internate radio, youtubes, podcasts, etc. that have actually beaten mainstream television in viewership/listenership? I'm just curious if there are any examples of new media challenging "old media"?

You know I marvel at all the people around me who have no desire to leave their unique stamp on the world...They just want to consume, consume, consume...

Are you currently getting 3,000 new & unique visitors per day? If not, that's why corporate America doesn't care.

And, if you get 3,000 new & unique visitors per day, but only 2,000 repeat visitors per day, your content must not be appealing to those new & unique visitors, otherwise your repeat visitors should be growing as time goes on. If they're not, that's another reason why corporate America doesn't care about your site.

Now, if you reach the point where you are getting 3,000 new & unique visitors per day, and the number of your repeat visitors continues to grow, then come back and report to us whether or not corporate America cares. And, for that matter, whether or not you still care whether they care because, at that point, you should be getting sufficient sales or ad revenue that you may not care whether corporate America cares about your site.

Okay, I regret putting the 2,000 in there. I meant to say that suppose one get 3,000 new, unique visitors from the SERPs and/or twitter/facebook, etc. each day. And, yes, I agree with you that you can make great money at that point just off proper use of your site. But I wasn't really thinking about the money as much as the influence.

NOTE: I'm not getting that yet. But give me 6 months - I've made good, steady progress already...

My point, though, is just that it is odd that corporate American doesn't recognize the power of these numbers, especially since these are very targeted users in general due to their keyword search selection, etc.

I was really more looking for examples of corporate American recognizing that someone is really nippping at their heels so to speak...
