totally lost using cpanel

I have a reseller account with a hosting company so I can host as many domains as I want with no extra charge (thats why I oppted for the reseller package) but the problem I'm having is that once I point the nameservers to my hosting account I expected to see the new domain name appear as an option when I logged into my cpanel. I already have one domain that I use for redirecting affiliate offers.

But this new domain didn't appear and I initially thought I'd managed to screw up the nameservers, but after checking I don't think I have. So I guess the question to you guys is what do I have to do in cpanel to be able to see this new domain ?

I Know it's very simple stuff but I'm totally lost.

Please help me understand where I'm going wrong

Thanks
Andy

You dont need to get a reseller hosting to host unlimited domains.

Almost all hosting companies provide you unlimited add on domains for hosting unlimited websites in one single hosting account.

You just need to add the domain as an Add-On Domain.

... or if you do have a reseller account (and thus access to WHM, not just Cpanel) then you can create a new account on WHM and your new domain will have separate Cpanel login/password.

    Or...

maybe you could contact the hosting company and ask them.

    Just a thought.

    Thanks,

Thought I'd ask here so that the answer is there for all newbies to see.

      Thanks anyway

There are two stages to putting a domain into a reseller account.

Changing nameservers to your private nameserver at the domain registrars - eg, ns1.yourdomain.com ns2.yourdomain.com is the correct format.

Then, you have to log into your WebHostManager - the format usually is http://www.yourdomain.com:2086 - and create a new account for your new domain name.

This means that you create a username for that account and a unique, hard-to-crack password for that account.

However, before you can create a new account, you have to configure your own hosting package - eg, 100Mb Space, 5Gb bandwidth, 5 mysql databases, 100 email accounts - calling it Silver hosting package, or similar.

Then when you create a new domain name in the WHM, you assign the domain a "Silver" package which reserves it a space on the server and gives it enough resources to run a reasonably busy website!

        Hope that helps

The last bit of the mystery is domain name propagation. When you set nameservers at the registrar (GoDaddy, 000domains, ......) it may take some time for your domain details to propagate round the net. Mostly these days, it's only a couple of minutes or so; however, I find some nameserver propagation can take a few hours or a day, so it can be a bit frustrating.

If you can call up your new domain name http://www.yournewdomain.com - and see a default index page or directory listing, then you're in business. A "Domain not found" usually means propagation is happening; on rare occasions it means that you made a mistake with the nameserver information at the registrars :O)

I've occasionally experienced "now you see it, now you don't" while propagation is happening - and again, patience solves this problem!

Good to see someone post a good and accurate answer - this is a common question for those new to using reseller accounts and it's simply knowing the steps to take.

The separate cpanel is one reason I started using reseller accounts so I think you've made a good choice. The WHM screen makes it easy once you get the hang of it.
