Thoughts on MRR and PLR

When it comes to creating new products, what are WF readers' thoughts on using MRR (master resale rights) and PLR (private label rights) products to either resell, or, in the case of PLR, to rebrand (with new page layouts, covers, and with supplemental material along the lines of video, audio, and linked products)?

Are you more inclined to create your own products from scratch? Or do you find it easier (and ultimately, more profitable) to resell or rebrand as outlined above?

I'm just trying to get a grip on what's working--product creation wise--for WF readers. Thank you in advance for your input.

I do both. Buy the PLR and put your personal "spin" on it by adding some content, rewriting, etc.

I never buy and sell PLR "as is". I just use it as a springboard for my own product.

It also makes the product "yours" in case someone else sells it; however, a small fraction of people who buy PLR actually do anything with it.

      Gary,

The possibilities are nearly endless. But, it is advisable to pay close attention to the clauses, which are accompanied by the purchased PLR product. Its author or the seller may impose a rule which may prevent you using the product to that which was intended.

If you use it, despite the clause, you may find yourself in throuble.

      All the best,

      Sandor

Several of the people who buy my PLR products add them to a product they're creating, either as a bonus or to flesh out sections of their otherwise original product.

MRR is also good as a bonus or upsell.

Also, some niches have a better selection of MRR and PLR available than others -- like IM -- so it's easier to find good products.

Why reinvent the wheel if someone has already created a perfectly good one and allows you to use it?

Is the plr that you have authored by you? I am currently looking for plr products from the original authors.

Unfortunately I do not have enough posts to PM you.

          Thanks.

I don't like using PLR. If someone buys a product from me, they did just that. Bought a product I created and not something I bought and rewrote.

I do use PLR material as bonuses some times. But only if it's highly relevant to the main product.

It really depends, sometimes if you can find good PLR that is relevant to what you want to create, then it's just a matter of repurposing/editing it a little to make it your own product. If there are gaps in it and some important points are missing, you could "fill in the blanks" and write what is needed to flesh this out into a complete product, or you could even combine a few PLR products into something that fits your needs.

Good PLR can often be a pretty decent starting point for your own product. You'll just have to take a look at the PLR you have and see whether it is appropriate to what you intend to create.

PLR and MMR really only have the purpose of...
    1. Building me backlinks quick while offers a bit of valuable information
    2. Easy to edit and make the article or ebook unique enough to link back to my core product

If its my own product no way would I trust it or use it and put my name on it. If you want to sell people some rehash stuff thats a really good way to damage your rep.

    Hey Gary
For a newbie starting out, PLR is a great way to get your hands on a finished product. Most will rework the book and put a new cover on it. If it is a niche you have a lot of knowledge in when just starting out, then this is a great way to quickly get something written and out there, even if it is for free or to build backlinks to a website / squeezepage.
For me PLR's have been a real lifesaver as what I am interested in, I am not yet an expert. The free PLR's have increased my knowledge and confidence and there are some real gem tips in some of them too!
As to who does what....I think it comes down to where they sit in the whole IM experience! Newbies will probably rework article and the old hands will definitely write there own.

    Hi Gary,
I've had success with both - creating products from scratch and redoing PLR to make them my own products.

I think starting from scratch is more fun for me but it does take longer. I do have the writing skills necessary to pull this off without problems.

Redoing a PLR product is easier for beginners, a bit of a confidence booster, especially if they don't have good writing skills. For me, it's got to be a good PLR product to begin with, and it needs to work for my niche.

I'd recommend you try both and see which works for better YOU.

    Peggy

My clients are using PLR as bonuses only right now. I don't think I would use a PLR book as my main product, just fearing the customer is going to run across it somewhere else and say to themselves, WTH!

Yes you can use MRR or PLR as your bonuses, or rebrand it or anything else, but I think the most important is by creating my product by myself, I will be more confidence to market it. And I feel more proud of myself.
    Just my2cent.

    best regards,

I think of these products as good starting points for your own products. The advantage of using them as starting points is that you don't need to do any of the research as it's already done for you. So try to take them and repurpose them in a way that is better organized and has actionable steps they can take after going through your product.

    Great list up above.

Both forms can be used as a springboard to your own ideas and future content and as mentioned already can be great in adding content to a website / blog or using it to get links into your own offers and sites.

Buying the quality PLR is the way forward though as there is less editing etc to be done!

    Thanks

I recommend you create products that are your own.

Providing you know what you are writing about (are an expert) or have thoroughly researched your subject (including interviewing experts), then you are more likely to create something of value.

Plus, you have total control of your product.

When you sell PLR/MRR you are selling something which is NOT unique and exclusive, even if you do change the title/graphics (PLR).

    E. Joseph Cossman once told me that the secret of his success was that he "controlled" the product. He either made it or locked up exclusive rights to it in some way. He went on to point out that when he did that, no matter who sold it, he got a piece of the pie. And that made him wealthy. Good advice from a mail order legend.

And still valid today (probably always will be).
