Has anyone had much success using a .us domain? I would think it would be ideal, however I have never seen a .us website - I am in Australia though. Are .us popular for the us?

The best thing that comes to my mind is delicio.us
They may not be popular, but make great hacks

I am in the U.S. and I don't see these domains much in the serps at all. I don't know how well they'd do with EMD but would be interesting to test.

A .us domain is usually good for "country or government related" sites.... Such as "www.mda.state.mn.us" -- Since that is the Department of Agriculture for a state in the US.

You could also use the .us TLD to mean the word "Us" instead of it standing for the United States. Something like "PlayWith.us" could be taken as a sentence "Play with us" -- You could certainly get creative!

Search engines don't discriminate so you certainly wouldn't have a problem ranking if you know how to optimize properly.

    Best,
    Shane

You have the same problem as me, then (I'm in the UK): neither of us is eligible to register a .us domain-name, unless we're doing US-specific business, have a US-presence (not just a bank account), and a specific reason for needing a .us domain. Unless all the terms/conditions have changed since I tried to register one? (I found a nice unregistered one, to my surprise: an adjective ending in "ous" - or "o.us", which was clearly worth something, and couldn't register it).
