Blog Sponsorship - French language

Hello,

I come here to get an advice about my 2nd website and about a monetization and sponsoring issue.

The website is a fitness blog providing tips about training and nutrition in french language. The website is Conseil Muscu. It is just starting right now, it is a blog that I update twice a week with articles from 400 to 800 words each time. There is also a freebie to get people to sign up on the newsletter. This newsletter is currently big of 66 members, with no ads. I get about 45 visitors per day without adverstising.

The goal of the webiste is to monetize it via the sales of advertisement and also the sales of an information product about fitness training. I had not planned to start the advertisment and monetization process right now, as I don't have enough visitors to do so.

However I have been approached by a big online protein store named BODY XL. They are a much bigger player (about 1000 visitors per day from what they told me). They basically want to sponsor my blog and we have discussed the terms of the deal.

They would be the following :

- I am still the owner of my blog.
- My template would be modified the color would be changed and there would be a mention like « powered by BOD XL » for example, to show a filiation between my website and their shop
- I would have 2 banners on my website that would be affiliate banners to their shop (one in header the second one in sidebar). Those banners would be paid per commission (5% in the first place, then 10% once a certain target of sales is reached).
- I can still monetize the blog with other banners, however the shop would provide me with a blacklist of suppliers that I couldn't contract with (direct competitors)
- The beginning of my articles would be sent on the newsletter of this shop, with links directing to my website to read full articles.

In the beginnning, the shop only wanted to pay me with affiliate commission. However as the filiation and sponsorship would be big (usage of articles on newsletter, modification of template), I asked to get a fix monthly rate on the top of the affiliate commission...

So the question is : how much should I charge for this monthly fee ? What do you think would be a reasonable amount ? As this would be a yearly contract, shall I ask for one discounted yearly rate ? Have you been faced with this case before and how did you do to calculate the price ?

Thanks in advance !

    Hi,

Being French, I thought i'd take a look...very nice blog.

I can understand why you would get a sponsorship approach that early...Your blog tick all the boxes:
    -Unique articles updated regularly
    -Credibility
-Design (subjective but I like it)
-newsletter and list building (I've signed up)
-Social Media : up to date Facebook page ,Twitter, linked in (liked followed and sent invite)

I see that a Decent link building activity has already taken place with all the links comming from related niche...Awesome!

Would be interesting to know if you have a particular search term you are planning to rank for on the French market at least.

It is clear that your site has a lot of potential , to answer your question , I would make sure that whatever sponsorship agreement you make is flexible enough to reward you in commensuration of your site growth. The last thing you want is get locked in an agreement for peanuts.

if one of your monetization model is selling adds, have you looked at open X ?

Best of luck with your enterprise, it seems it has all the ingredient for success.

Let me know if I can help ant further.

    Cordialement

    Manuel

Hello Manuel and thanks for your advices...

I am trying to rank well on main terms like "musculation" "programmes de musculation" and so on, but the competition is fierce and some of the domains in the top 10 are quite old.

For banners, I was planning on using the WP plugin Kadom Ads Management. What is the difference with the Open X software you mention ?

    Hi

I was looking at a few keywords:
you need to try to rank for "musculaction" the mispelling of musculation
there are 9900 exact search for France and competition for that word is weak for first page in google although it will take a bit of effort to get top rank as position 1 and 2 are strong...But not impossible
Programmes de musculation only get around 310 searches and is pretty weak in term of competition.

Musculation is the keyword for your long term campaign at 72000 exact search a month in France and yes , first page result is strong but...with consistent effort ...Why not.

-Make sure you have done some really thorough keyword research
-Understand good On page SEO (look for the SEO pressor plugin)
-And then really get some serious back-linking going...I mean serious, 326 links to rank for "musculation" is not going to cut it...you are looking at many thousands of links...

As for the Kadom plugin...I am not familiar with it.

    good luck
