Renaming pages, is it okay?

I haven't really done anything with my dog site for several years. I now plan to work on it but am wondering if I messed up on naming some of my pages. The individual dog breeds were named simply by the breed, such as Maltese, etc. Would if have been better to name them maltese dog breed, yorkshire terrier dog breed, including the words dog breed after each one to better rank for the term dog breed? If so, how would it impact the site to change them now? I don't get a lot of traffic to those pages yet? Thanks.

You can safely rename page titles. Regarding the URLs, you can use 301 redirects (moved permanently) and Google should pass on the PR. If you are using Wordpress, it will do the 301 redirect for you automatically.

Actually I did mean the url and it is a static site done in Xsite Pro.

In that case you will need to define rewrite rules in your .htaccess file for your Apache webserver. Or you could do a 301 redirect with a refresh in your HTML pages, to make them point to the new ones. You can probably ask your host for some help with the issue. It's a trivial matter.

You can rename pages, not sure you should "redo stuff" but perhaps going forward change your naming scheme. If you do rename pages you should use redirects so you don't lose any traffic/backlinks.
