Information for those using PayPal as their payment gateway!

If you're using Paypal as your payment gateway I would consider switching because you are losing sales.

What I am about to explain has happened to me several times and as a result the product owner has lost out on a sale.

Paypal REFUSED my card!

I only have the 1 credit card which is linked to a Paypal account. I hit my limit with that card and at the time couldn't be bothered to verify it. The process is long winded and I don't use Paypal for anything apart from purchasing products. Let me also add Paypal sided with a buyer on eBay who sent an empty box back after my mother sold her iPad to him. He got the money back, my mom lost an iPad. So, I dislike paypal for a number of reasons.

Because I linked my card to the account, after the limit was hit you can no longer use that card. Even if you click "pay without card" and use a different email address Paypal won't allow it.

I know for certain other people have had the same issue. All have their own reasons why they won't verify their card. Maybe because their to busy, and slips their mind, or they have reasons why they dislike paypal.

You're probably reading this and saying "But James, that's your problem for not verifying your card, not ours". You're right to say that, but you've just lost out on my sale/subscription. If the seller used a merchant account, they would not force you down the "verify your card" route, meaning you have to wait days/weeks to get a product.

Subscription products are terrible for using Paypal. People who don't have Paypal accounts, or don't want to link their card to one, don't get your product and you don't get their sale.

If you think I'm wrong please say so. I just tried to purcahse ReviewAzon and couldn't because Paypal denied my card. Now I have to look for an alternative solution with a different payment gateway.

Whilst I can see your point in relation to paypals often scandalous willingness to side with the customer over the seller what serious alternatives can you suggest that will actually proove more secure for sellers and buyers? Especially when using Ebay.
