If There Is One Skill You Want to Perfect In The IM Business, What Would It Be? (Choice Given)

This is a poll to help both me and the rest of the Warriors to focus on the most important part of the IM business. If you have a choice, which part of the business do you think is critical in the IM business.

Also, do explain your decision because I also want to know the rational behind the decision. Thanks!

    Great poll! However I think option one and two are strongly connected to each other. I've read a book by Mark Joyner about creating the irresistible offer and his first point made was having a high ROI offer! So you offer something that gives more value to the customer than they pay for it. However, having a good product isn't a guarantee for sales. Good copywriting can really make a difference between a moderate business and a multi-million-dollar business

      There ISN'T just one skill that's critical to your success
      in Internet Marketing.

      You need multiple skills.

      Therefore, your poll is flawed in scope.

      Creating products that sell is crucial as is writing copy
      that actually converts visitors to buyers.

      You can have a great product that people want to buy
      but if your copywriting skills suck then your sales will
      suck too.

      Similarly, even if you've got great copywriting skills, they
      won't help you to sell an ill-conceived product idea.

      You need both and a lot more.

        Alternative perspective: It's really easy to get high conversions, even with crappy copy, if people already want what you're offering badly enough to pay for it.

        Believe it.

          For sure.

          The quality of the offer and the list of people it's being
          put in front of are other elements that are oftentimes
          more important than the copy.

          (To me, market selection and the structure of the offer
          are part of copywriting - not just the words on the page).

          Hence why there's more than one skill that needs to be
          considered to become successful in any type of marketing
          - including Internet Marketing.

          This alternative view explains the preponderance of "pushbutton" products that apparently sell fairly well, despite the often flaky and contrived copy.

          Yeah but when it comes to some products, unless the sales copy is good, they aren't going to want the product. They have to be convinced it's a product they want and need. If the sales copy sucks, then it won't convince them.

          Alternatively, you could write great copy for a crap product and sell a lot of it. You probably will have a lot of refunds though.

        Hi Frank,

        Actually, all the four options here are connected to each other. The question is, which one do you want to focus on and which one can you actually outsource....

        This poll is just to get a sense of what warriors focus on when they work on their IM biz.

          I voted for building your list mainly because it gives you a few advantages down the road:
          1. You can find out exactly what they need help with and then create products around those topics.
          2. Once you have a relationship with your list, they will be ready to buy even if you're sales letter and marketing isn't perfect.
          3. You can continue to create more quality products that help your list and as long as you treat your readers well they will continue to buy from you.
          Overall though, I try to focus on three things simultaneously in my online business. I first picked this up from Jimmy D. Brown.

          Traffic - List - Offer

          As I create my to-do lists and long term plans, I double check to make sure I am spending time on each of those areas.

    Building RELATIONSHIPS.

    With JV partners
    With your list
    et all.

    Once you have those, darn near anything you put out will sell. Don't use that as an excuse to sell junk, but it sure does help!

    All success,

    Communication may be the most important skill to have.

    Communicate through your own products to those who buy them.
    Communicate through your posts and articles to gain followers/customers.
    Communicate to your list to provide the most value and get the most in return.

    Can I say all 4.

    I don't care how good of a product you can create, if you can't write a sales page then you won't succeed.

    Also, if you can't build a list or get affiliates then you won't be able to get to the next level.

    Writing Sales Copy That Convert Like Crazy

    I definitely want to learn that. Why?

    1. I could use it for my own products
    2. I could offer services to "big" product owners.

    Thanks warriors for those great comments. Though I didn't vote, but like most of you, I believe that copy writing is the primary skill most IM should master (and I am going to start learning that). well, the saying is true, you can have a so-so product and still sell well if you have a good copy, but not when you have good product but a so-so sales copy....

      Sort of agree Justin, but I said "relationships" because:

      1) You have to have a relationship to "get" those affiliates
      2) The relationship is what makes those affiliates ACTUALLY PROMOTE

      If you get 100,000 affiliates, but none of them email their lists for your product on launch day, it won't help much.

      Having a solid relationship with them helps ensure that they will follow through and deliver.

      All success,

    Based on my experience, having a big list of cultivated people with a lot of buying power is my vote.

    If you have a list you actually have a goldmine that you can tap into, depending on many factors...

    Plus, JV's just come to you when you have a decent list, all everyone wants is exposure.

    When you have a cool product, and no list, not many people care about what you have to say or what you've done.

    Imagine this, you approach a potential JV partner with a cool product which you already know it's earnings per click and all.

    Unless you know them personally, they usually don't care because any super affiliate gets multiple JV proposals everyday.

    BUT, if you do the same and mention you have a list, you're all of sudden a potential partner to them, not just vise versa.

    Copywriting is crucial, but with a big ol' list you should have the capital needed to be able to outsource writing copy to a decent copywriter.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    krankxl, from an objective perspective, you're very right.
    Really I think the first 3 are equally important as you cant build a IM business with out them. Obviously the list is the last of the 3 that will as you need something to sell/ giveaway to build your list. The JV would come along at a later stage as you need to have something to give in exchange
      I'd definitely go with the products that people want to buy option.
      You can know how to find super affiliates, you can know how to build a big list, you can know how to write sales copy but everything is in vain if you don't have a product that people want to buy.
      Remember the starving crowd analogy.
    I chose writing sales copy. I seem to really suck at it lol. I can create a product, I can build a website, I can do all these things, maybe not perfectly but I'm not bad at them. But sales copy? UGH! The minute I sit down to start writing a sales page I turn into a complete braindead zombie.
