Hello Warriors,

I'm a newbie in IM and I've been doing alot of research lately. I think I've got a good grasp about the basics of niche sites.

So I've Done my keyword research and I found an interesting keyword. It has about 5000 exact searches per month and about 50.000 broad searches. The top 3 in google for this keyword are PR1 (#1) PR0 (#2) and PR4 (#3) there is one more PR4 (#5). Rest are 3 or below. Only the first one has the exact niche in his domain but it is a .net site. The only availlable domains left are with a - in it (I have no idea how to say " - " in english) . But I can get a .com domain that way. The #1 site only has 1 page of content. #1 and #2 both have under 10 backlinks and #3 has about 200. 5 of the ranked sites have under 5 backlinks.

Sorry for the info overload but I wanna know if this might be a good keyword to start my first niche website. Its a pretty common keyword, has 3 words in it, and has the potential to advertise for a range of hundreds of items in that niche just within the main keyword. Also alot of potential for a load of long tail keywords.

It seems like perfect to me.So I want to know from you guys:

1. Do I miss some crucial info in my keyword research?
and 2. Would you advise me to start building a site with this as its main keyword?

I hope some guys who have made some sites in the past can help me here.
Thnx in advance guys!

Greets Thom

EDIT: My idea is to make an Amazon/Adsense website. With maybe around 50 pages of quality reviews, info etc. (way more than the number 1 and 2 so I might get an easy #1 spot with only around 10 pages)

Give it a shot and see. Without the full information the keywords, competition, etc... nobody can give you an answer.

The fact that nobody here can be sure of your work ethic on the site complicates things more.

Trying yourself is the only way you will get anywhere. What do you have to lose, couple bucks on a domain?

Very true, I just don't want to start off with a keyword that would be impossible to rank first page. So I guess the real question is: Disregarding how I make a site, is it a nice start?

I think I'm gonna try it out anyways but I only have 50$/month to spare atm unfortunately. So I dont want to walk into something impossible. I'll figure out the rest along the way.

      Thanks for the reply!

When searching It shows 1 ad. Plus when you type this in google you definately are looking for atleast info (wich I can provide). And after that I'm confident the people who search for this also want to buy. Though this is an item that is around 130$ min. So It will be low conversion for the main page. Though long tail keywords connected to this keyword would allow me to advertise for items of a way lower price.

To be more direct: Yes this is a "buying niche" and yes there is a "pain" I can solve with products.

        Thnx for the reply!

the number sound good , can you tell us more about the money side:

What are you going to be selling?

-is there a "pain"you can solve with products or services?
-are many adds showing when you do a search?

Basically. is it a "buying niche" ?

    What says you

I got one question I'd like to add:

Lets say my main keyword is: top mountaineering gear (my actual keyword has nothing to do with this)

The best domain to go for would be "topmountaineeringgear.com"right? Though that one isn't available.

Then I tried top-mountaineering-gear.com, wich was also unavailable

So I tried top-mountainereeringgear.com wich is available.

Since the first word (wich actually is somewhat like my first word of the keyword) would be considered a different catagory while the last 2 words relate much more. So a - after the first word would make sense to me.

Question is: Is that still a good domain for my site?

      Thnx for your reply lilblackdress!

With .info and .org domains costing only costing a few bucks i would go with one of those and keep as best you can the whole of your keyword phrase intact.

Sounds like you have done some great research and taken time to check it all which is brill.

All thats left now is to bite the bullet and have a go! Sometimes it might not work out...but when it does you will find that you forget about those times and remember how good it feels to find and capitalise on a niche that YOU found!

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
