Making a Loooong Sales Pitch Page

We all know 'em (love 'em or hate 'em): those long, long web pages selling ebooks or video courses which promise us the moon, have tons of testimonials, and contain different font sizes and headers and logos and colors and all that fun stuff. They often have rounded corners around the text area, and thin borders on either side with repeating graphics/background on them.

Hey, they apparently work. And I'd like to try one. Is there some kind of creator tool for this kind of page? They usually contain graphics like a splash logo and a representation of a book or a box of software with the product's name on it, and of course a "Click Here to Buy" type button. And the marketing-based sites like this often have those cool backgrounds with dollar signs or dollar bills. Does one need a bunch of different tools to make all of those things, or is there a simplified tool or toolkit to create them? I am not very skilled in Photoshop or the like and I'm not a graphic designer.

Also, can WordPress be used to make such a sales pitch page? Any particular WP themes (or package of appropriate themes) that you happen to like for this purpose? I'd like to use WP because I may also want to have a blog on my product's sales pitch website (although I don't see blogs on many of these sorts of sites for some reason).

I'm getting a lot of great info from WF so far! Thanks to everyone who's humored me in my ignorance and taken the time to reply.

Those sales pages are effective because of all the information that is given. If someone is willing to read through all of those testimonials and information, then they are certainly 90% qualified to join your business. It's a great tool to weed out the weak players. I like your idea with wordpress, however just be sure to make that sales page clear and to the point. A sales page has a one major task, to make a sale. Having anything which may distract people from the main purpose will hurt you in the long run. I think you should hold back your blog until someone signs opts in to your list. The only link that should be that sales page is a check out link. Good luck and let me know how it works for you. send me a link once you get it up and running.

The best Wordpress theme for this is: OptimizePress - Internet Marketing Wordpress Theme. You can make some nice looking sales pages with this.

    Good luck!

Make sure it's not super boring. Use colorful fonts and some graphics that pop to keep attention and get your potentials wet!!! :p LOL!

      CHEERS!

P.s. Long sales pages work for most, except for anyone who's ever been in sales (not just IM). It's a simple sales tactic. Build it up, show some proof, get them excited, show them they're getting one hell of a deal... Like I said get 'em wet!!

Whenever I see one I just scroll to the bottom to see the price!!

OptimizePress was a good choice to recommend, but if it's just one of those LONG sales letters you're looking to layout and include EVERY section that a normal sales letter has, then you should check out MarketerCMS.

Watch the video and it will go over all the different sections. Very easy and you'll never touch code.

Hi SteveEO, sorry, I think you've gone way over my head. I'm not familiar with swipe material or Java toggle boxes... are these tools that allow for an opt-in email signup box or popup on the sales page?

You certainly don't need those plugins, so please if you don't understand SteveEO's post, just disregard it. You don't need any plugins to create a long sales page.

WordPress works great for any type of website.
Themes You Should Use- Genesis and Prose by StudioPress
Why? Prose lets you choose to make landing pages that will take away ALL distracting elements from the page.

The reason you don't see blogs connected to those sales pages is because there is no link away from the sales page. The reason you would still want to create a blog is to attract traffic. You can prove the credibility of your product by posting information on your blog. The object of the blog will be to attract traffic and funnel it to your sales page. The blog's Pre-sell strategies will have your customers credit card out before the sales page even loads.

Most of the graphics are created in photo editing programs (can be outsourced for $5-10.) You can use very simple CSS to create the desired effects.(Learn how at w3schools.com)

DP Blog Host hands out Genesis and Prose for Free with new accounts(Usually $85 for both themes.)

DPWeb, thanks for the info! You touched on something that I've wondered for a while. If the sales page has absolutely no links except to the "checkout" page, won't the entire site be strongly penalized by Google and the other SEs (both the PPC side if you're using that method and the SERP side) because it has no links to Privacy, Disclosure, Contact, Home page, outward links to authority/related sites, etc?
