Noob looking for advice and first impressions.

Hello everyone,

I've been looking at doing something Internet related to make money for some time. I'd looked at lots of things.

I've built a wordpress site, I started it last night.

Main Entrance - (Needs Work)
horuscope dot org

Direct into the Site
horuscope dot info/stories

The Idea is a News Blog, with intersperced ads etc.

Kept up to date etc.

Firstly, I was looking for thoughts, I know, it only has a little content, but 3 of us are going to change that over the next few days.

I'm considering Google Adsense but I hear it can be a pain to get accepted into, or, at least that you have to fullfill certain criteria. I'd be intersted to hear about that side of it too.

    From personal experience I can tell you that opining a
    Google Adsense account is not difficult at all, just enter
    all the info they ask.

    Also, there are Google Adsense alternatives. On the other
    hand, you can use affiliate products to monetize it -
    Clickbank, Amazon, CJ, etc.

    Hope you did a market research to know if there are people
    looking for info about your blog's topic, if not it will be
    very difficult to monetize...

    But if people are looking for info then start posting all
    the content you can using the right keywords, you will see
    that the traffic will begin to arrive.

    Why a main entrance page? I've read that's not good for search engine optimization. You should do some research about that. Google "intro page bad for seo" or "splash page bad for seo".

    Also, why should I come to your site for news? I can get the same thing (or better?) from MSNBC or FOX NEWS. What makes you different? What makes you stand out?

    The tagline of your website is interesting, though. "See the Future"

    Here's an interesting idea. What if ALL the news stories had to do with the future (future predictions). Future of the economy, Future of technology, Future of medicine ..., etc.

    So in essence, it would be a news aggregation site of stories about the future.

      Nice thought, you can see part of where the site will head.

      We have put much thought into marketing and potential customers. I'm hoping for big things.

      As for the news, well, yes, cnn.... Depends on who's news you want to listen too, CNN doesn't have the best stuff. It won't have what we have either.
      I will use some of their feeds tho. ;-)

      I am planning to do away with the landing page although I can't see it should affect google? It was just for effect, and space for carfully chosen ads.
      Google should trawl it anyway, landing page or not as the sites still visible from the net? I put the detail into google as the sites main page, not the landing page.

      Clickbank, well, a good look hasn't shown me anything to jump and say, wow. Plus, I'm not sure on the marketing method, pop-ups, several of them, but I may give them a go.

      I have an Amazon Associates ID, so I've used that for now, but I wanted to run adsense.

      Are there any other better methods that could be employed?

    Oh, OK. So your site will be stories about "the future of...". And right, since you're niche is "future" you're not really competing with the big guys (like cnn). You'll just be aggregating. Which is cool.

    What about advertising for products that prepare people for the future. You know, the kind of ads on websites like prisonplanet (dot) com. I'm guessing some of these are from ad networks and some even have affiliate programs.

    - 2012 DVD's
    - Generators / Solar Panels
