Recommendation on Dedicated Server Company - I Use Winner's Aff Link

I need a dedicated server and I need it setup tonight!

Can anyone share with me a reasonably priced dedicated server company that can handle 10,000 or more visitors per day with ease (won't be constant traffic...40,000 some days, 1,000 other days)?

Make sure to link to the service you recommend with your Aff link. I'll purchase through the winner's link.

Needs to be linux based, and if I can host more than one domain that would be super!

Thanks,

Scott

No affiliate, but if you are serious about a decent host, talk to http://MediaLayer.com

I challenge you to find a negative review.

You'll probably not need dedicated with them though. If you do, it'll be a tailored job. But make sure to talk to them first.

Visitors will be seeing mostly a text sales page with images, but customers will be able to watch 35+ MB Movies and download files of that size at the same time....

I had issues with my Host Gator resellers account and RAP. The video download size was 27 MB...and the other one 433 MB...

I got a 500 error and HostGator told me I had too many open concurrent processes (I think concurrent is the word I'm looking for)

RAP is a PHP based script.

HostGator wants me to pay $177 / mo for one of their dedicated servers which I think is outrageous.

Kiosk.ws and no I'm not an aff

They had hiccups up in Canada but since moving my dedicated server to their new datacenter it's been blazingly fast and no problems at all, even with very heavy traffic during my current product promo. And they're VERY marketer-friendly.

No aff link just an honest recommendation. I have had up to 7 servers with them at one time with great service. I am down to 4 now but am still a happy customer.

I have also been a customer since late 2004/early 2005

I believe you don't need a dedicated server, a powerful VPS will do the job.

Look into KnownHost and LiquidWeb, both also offer dedicated servers if you still want to go for those.

MediaTemple looks great, but it's a T4 provider, which is the only drawback that I see.

I use Defender Hosting and have a VPS with waaaay more bandwidth than I need for $45 a month, hosting *Unlimited* domains and/or subs.

They are the ONLY VPS provider that's hosted onsite in a T1 datacenter: the world class Equinix data centers that run the nation's financial markets, in fact... Add an insanely fast and responsive support staff, and you will see why I've never even THOUGHT about a change.

Here's a link (They don't even HAVE an affiliate program ;-)

Glenn is right. PowerVPS is an excellend choice if you were to consider a VPS over a dedicated box.

  • I've got a few servers at rackspace, let me tell you its pricey. But well worth it, some people have had problems with them but I haven't personally.

They have a lot of techs and always fix anything. A lot of times when I dont know how to do something on the server I can ask them to set it up for me and they'll do it!

But at the time I was doing high end web application development and needed my own boxes to work on. If you're just doing a squeeze page you don't need hardcore hosting

Dreamhost has been great for serving videos for me, I dislike using other sites to host my videos. Dreamhost is like 120 a year or 60 up front and 11 a month and they give you 5 terabytes from the start and increase your bandwidth every week.

Use Amazon S3 to store the video and images.

And continue with Hostgator reseller. It should handle 40,000 per day with ease.

    Scott,

Can you set up a VPS yourself? MediaTemple VPS isn't managed last time I checked.

I've heard their VPS is good. Their grid-server though, to be polite, is junk and my experience with them would never take me back to them.

These guys: PacificRack | Dedicated Servers, RAID Servers, Bandwidth Intensive Servers, Managed Servers are AWESOME!!!

Their support is the best I have ever seen from ANY company!

MASSIVE data pipes as well, and very easy growth path if you need/want it.

They don't do affiliates, so, just enjoy it if you go with them!

I have used Datapipe for dedicated servers. Datapipe is like Rackspace . . .pricey but wonderful support. They know servers and databases. The level of support their whole team gave me was so beyond the call of duty. If money were no object, Datapipe is my first love.

For low cost dedicated servers I use ThePlanet for 1 PHP and 1 Windows server. Not even in the same league as Datapipe or Rackspace but 1/3 the price. I called LiquidWeb for a quote recently . . . they were twice the cost as ThePlanet.

After set up, you rarely need tech support so it was worth the savings for me. ThePlanet does do an excellent job of monitoring my server to make sure it stays online. I would say even better than Datapipe.

They just won't help you for free on many of the issues that were part of my former Datapipe support. Luckily I have a team of programmers that I work with on a monthly basis so the low level Planet support isn't a problem for me. If you don't know how to maintain a server, this low level support may be a problem for you.

ThePlanet hosts HostGator so you will be buying from their source. A Virtual Private Server (VPS) isn't the same as a dedicated server.

I checked out Amazon's cloud. Sounded cheap but on further research would have cost me a lot more than ThePlanet.

My tip is to ask for ThePlanet's best special and then negotiate further. They always will come down in price for addons like more memory, backups, etc after talking to a manger. I truly can't figure out how I can have servers so cheap.
