Crap filter - Real people doing real business
If all you hear day after day is a promotion after promotion for "make thousands in your underwear" followed by rants from blind FAKE consumer advocates telling you how "that promotion to make thousands in your underwear is a total scam..."
Then you are simply listening to, subscribed to, and hanging out with the wrong crowds.
The reason you do not hear the loud banging of pots and pans from those who are actually doing and teaching correct marketing principles online is because they are quietly focused and many times only teach in small private communities that are working together to help and lift each other as they dominate their target markets both offline and online.
(Tip: Facebook is one of the few public places that if you friend the right people and watch how and who they are interacting with and what they are discussing that you can actually discern the real work of success).
Though some of them might sell a product or service or two to the "make money on the net" niche most are raking in their profits outside of the make money niche and they never put out hyping headlines like "I made $$XXXXXXX and you can too!"
Here are some possible formulas that you can use to gauge whether you are subscribed and following the wrong group:
Total number of emails in subscription inbox that are solo ads or just promotions for some affiliate product / Total number of emails in subscription inbox.
Then estimate how many subscriptions you have and look at what % are just strait promotions for affiliate products.
Next from the strait promotions and count how many focus on the "make money" and "get rich" elements or which use bank statements and other financial illustrations and claims to get their point across.
Then count how many offers focus on the merit of the product or service's functionality and features rather than the financial aspect and dream.
Divide each of those numbers by the total. If the second is lower than the first you are in trouble...
Unless...
Unless you are a highly conditioned and experienced and successful individual who subscribes to as many newsletters as possible to learn from the hype, to monitor market trends, to watch successes and implosions, to study other people's copy etc.
I warn you though... unless you are highly desensitized to hype and being sold dreams this is a dangerous practice that is known to cause hemophilia of the wallet.
Btw... there is an easy way if you want to keep up on the pulse of the IM market without having to have an inbox full of junk:
Internet Marketing News Watch
That is a free Internet marketing news digest newsletter you can subscribe to which sends you only a digest and never any promotion. Great stuff.
If you filter out all the hype and drop most subscriptions and start sticking with the ones that actually deliver content or updates about products and services direct from the companies you trust you will begin to see more clearly.
Look for people who are verifiably successful online, who's primary income is NOT from selling products with bold "make money" claims or from promoting other people's launches constantly but who's primary business is providing products and services that enhance people's businesses, increase their profits, or who market outside of the B2B niche successfully and just enjoy helping others succeed.
Look for those who are not so focused on the fast launch and the big financial withdrawal but who are in it for the long term.
Look for those who's products have longevity are constantly being updated or improved or who have been focused on providing quality products and services in specific targeted market for many many many years.
Look for those who have clients who have used their products and services for extended periods of time with great success.
Look for those who are less focused on bragging about how big their last launch was, how much they made from their last promotion ("...and you can too!") but more about delivering products and services that assist their clients in a sustained long term success.
Train your self to turn a blind eye to EVERY SINGLE OFFER that uses ANY exact financial claim at all. Ignore every bank statement, ignore every financial claim figure, ignore every screen shot of statistics... KNOW that they all can be faked and that they all can be short term and unsustainable...
Instead filter all that out and focus on what the individual is actually selling... is it hype and a dream? Or is it real solid long term proven technology, systems, strategies etc...
...backed by actual long term solid and verifiable undeniable groups of clear minded unique and individual successful clients.
Sure this post is a little like a rant.... it is not meant to be. I am hoping that somehow my abstract thoughts will be helpful to someone in breaking free of the fog.
I am not sure if I even expressed myself clear enough but I am hoping I did in order to provide a little hope and clarity to anyone who has been blinded or who has trouble filtering out the crap and hype.
Specifically:
1. The CRAP from FAKE consumer advocates who pretend to be saviors.
and
2. The HYPE from DREAM SELLERS that FAKE consumer advocates love to rant about.
