Hey guys,

I've been reading this forum for over a month and I wanna thank all of you for the great content in here. I learned alot and I'm actually ready to start off my own IM adventure!
After purchasing my domain and host (from godaddy and hostgator as recommended by you guys) ones my domain get properly linked to hostgator hosting then im ready to go.

I wanted to build a wordpress site as they say it is real easy. Only the thing is I don't want a blog site. I do want a blog ON my site but I want it to be as one of the catagories. I want a normal info page as my homepage and all my catagories on the top of my site (plus a blog).
So will only wordpress do enough for me or do I have to start using dreamweaver (or any similar software) for the site and wordpress for the blog?

I want to start off as soon as possible and since it takes another day or so to get my domain linked to my hosting (atleast thats what I read) I wanna know if I should start learning about dreamweaver or just look up some wordpress tutorials so I can start building the site tomorrow. (I have never build a site before)

I would really be grateful for any help since this forum mostly cover the actual marketing and not making the site.

Greets thom

      Wordpress is all you need.

If you want a "blog look" to be separate make a page named "blog" and then in Settings > Reading make that page the default for your posts and make another static page your home page.

Honestly don't put too much thought into not looking like a blog. Just use a static front page if you don't want recent posts to show on main page.

    Hey Thom
You can easily do this on wordpress.
Just create seperate pages in your
dashboard and include them into your
menu so they show up as tabs in the
    top of your site.

    Wordpress is awesome and very
Easy to customize. So I recommend
Learning wordpress and have a play
    With the dashboard.

With Hostgator, you should be able to do a one click install of wordpress from your cpanel section of your domain dashboard.

To do this you need to go to the button that says Fantastico and that will give you a lot of choices of different things to install. Just pick wordpress and fill in the information fields where it asks for user name and password.

Make sure you keep track of your user name and password and the login page somewhere. I always test mine first to make sure the combination works and then I store them after I have successfully logged in.

It is simple (I love it) and your site will be setup with a default theme to get you started.

It is pretty simple (again my favorite kind of thing) to set up a static page as your home page with your blog somewhere else.

If you have never done this kind of things before, it might take a little bit of getting used to but its a pretty simple thing to do.

Just point that domain's DNS info to your host - don't wait with that.

    Re: WordPress.
Despite what many idiots say - it is NOT a "web design tool". It is a CMS = content management system that started as a blogging tool.

Its main function still is to publish your content on the web in an easy way.
You content (posts, Pages, comments and your settings) is stored in the MySQL database. It is always there.

WordPress the engine (also called the "core files") will retrieve your content and will display it in browsers for visitors.

The look: in other words the way the content is displayed is determined by the theme you are using. There are thousands of free themes and the TwentyTen that comes in your WP packages is an excellent one. (Many paid themes are way worse...)

Inside your wp-admin panel there are tens and tens of settings and tools.
STUDY, try all of them. Play with them - that's how you understand WP.

Oh, and every question you ever wanted to ask about WP is already answered in the WP online manual, the Codex...

WP is highly customizable, so you can build many types of sites with it, but if you're still undecided go to opensourcecms.com and check out other systems.
