how to find out value of websites?

Does anyone know of a good source to finding out the value of websites? I have a number of websites that I would like to sell as I don't have or interest for them - they are just sitting there. But I have no idea how much to ask for them
or where I could easily sell them.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

First you need to know how much these sites are making per month. If they are making nothing then don't expect to sell them for very much. You might be better off trying to monetize the sites before you try to sell them.

If they are making money then the price you can expect will be a multiple of the average monthly income - I don't flip sites very often so I'm not sure of the figure. I think it might be 10 x monthly earnings or something like that?

It's all dependent on the buyer and how your site "fits" into their plans.

Not really. If I have a website making me $2,000 per month and I want to sell it for $8,000 (and rightly so), I don't care about the plans of a person who wants to buy the site from me for $4,000 or $6,000 - it's irrelevant.

If they want the site they can pay a fair price for it - otherwise I'll wait for a serious buyer to come along.

And the buyer doesn't care about what you want. They care about the value the site provides to them.

Let's take your site making $2000 month. I'm a buyer but it doesn't really fit into what I want to do so I pass. Someone else might see more potential so they pay.

Some sites (making very little or no revenue) sell because the buyers see the potential and how it compliments what they're already doing.

The same thing happens in the brick and mortar world. Companies but other companies for strategic reasons. Often those reasons dictate the amount of money they're willing to spend.

I guess 10X monthly earnings works for smaller transactions but is really a very rough estimate. There are other considerations.

Yes but this is not going to determine the value I place on my site, is it? I am not going to decide the value of my site based on how it fits in with someone's plans. I would base it on the income it is currently making and the selling price of other similar sites.

You shouldn't but you should try to understand their motivations.

              Hi Joanne

Be very careful selling your websites in the current economy. I sell websites on a regular basis and I've been shocked to see the way people are valuing them right now.

There's a huge culture of "cheap buyers" out there at the moment who expect you to part with the site you worked hard on for a few months of income.

If you want to PM and I'll chat with you about this some more - I don't want to post too much here.

Either way be careful where you list your sites - too many sharks who smell blood in the water these days.

              Chat soon :-)

              Niall
