List building "stupid question"

Hey there everyone!

Currently spending a lot of time doing article marketing and purely article marketing, I have been reading over and over again that the money is in the lists.

It does make sense to me but there is on thing that I can't quite figure out.

How do you go about deciding to build a list? This may seem like a very general question but what I really want to know is whether you actually build a sqeeze page on some subject, drive traffic and then send emails to sell products of your own or to sell other people's products?

You see, I am currently promoting 3 clickbanck products, I have landing pages and re direct and I can't possibly think of building a list for these? Do I need to create a product of my own?

Thanks in advance.

You can build a list for your own products or any you sell as an affiliate. Basically any webpage you have control over that is receiving traffic can, and almost always should, be used to build some type of list.

The majority of visitors to your webpage will not complete the call to action - whether it be to buy something, try something, whatever. By collecting their email address you are able to followup with those people and turn more of them into paying customers.

Oh I get it!! Thanks for that! I didn't see it that way! Do you know if I can get an opt in / on a blogger page by any chance?

Yes, you could add an optin form on a blogger page. You will just need a good autoresponder like Aweber (they have a $1 30 day trial) and you can then create simple optin forms you can embed on any website you like.

Another strategy that has worked especially well for me is to create a video "tutorial" and offer this as the bait. My video tutorials all come with:

        1. Video training

        2. Transcript

        3. Downloadable guide/checklist

This takes no time at all to prepare (A few hours) and blasts the perceived value through the roof. Hard to resist signing up for! Hope this helps!

Should you build a list... yes yes yes...

I've has over 1,000,000 views on my articles in eza.. around 300,000 click throughs in the past 4 years...

Now ask me do i wish i was collecting emails when i started.

Also you don't need to sell via your list I find people respond better if i send them to a video or a free report and then link from that to the product

No. You do not need to create a product for yourself. However, your conversion might be better using your own products from your own websites with simple paypal buttons so the reader from your list know they buy from you.

Here's a strategy on building a list and making profit:
    1. Give something away for free -- with an opt-in of course. Something your readers really want.
    2. Promote this free gift (and thus your list) on forums or with Google Adwords f.e.
    3. Send them another free product/report (optional)
    4. Now sell them something that's exactly like the free products, but even better! So they 'must' have it. Put your salespage link in it and hopefully you'll make money. Lots of it!

Articles are a great way to promote a free product or report btw

One quick and easy way to create your free giveaway for your squeeze page is to find 4-5 good articles on the subject and then compile them into a pdf report. Make sure you retain the resource box though, but also include your own link to your own product (if you have any) or affiliate links to products you are promoting.

Why Can't you collect emails while promoting these products? I set up my own, I give out bonus and tell them if they buy through my link theyll get the bonus but first they must fill out the form on the page to get taken to the product im talking about.

    I agree with Mark,
many products can be promoted by sending to a squeeze page with a free video course!
Then the autoresponder series from the product's owner will make the conversion.
