Scammed again - My own fault!

I just got caught with yet another scam, and I am unamused.

Basically I forgot to set it so that people couldn't buy one of my products through a PayPal e-check.

You guessed it, they buy with an e-check, return to merchant and download the product...then cancel the e-check!

So I thought I would mention this on here so that you could all check your download set-up, just in case.

On the bright side I do now have his PayPal email address and name, and can make things difficult for him in the future.

Cheers,
Colin Palfrey

Just a note for folks who might think this is common...

I rarely have any trouble with e-checks. I've had one that bounced in the past 4 years, and the woman emailed me asking how to fix it. Some sort of glitch with her bank, apparently. She did correct it, and without me ever having to ask. Other than that, it's the same as any other transaction as far as I'm concerned.

Some people do have regular problems like you've described, though. I'm not sure what causes the difference, but it's real. Some shopping cart software, like RAP, will hold delivery until the check clears. If you run into this often, that might be one way to go.

Here is how I blocked them for good.

Open up PayPal and click on "Profile". Next click "My Selling Tools" and then "Block Payments".

From there you can turn echecks off, and block the scheming turds from doing it again.

    Paul,

I appreciate that for some people they may work well, but I like to head this sort of thing off as soon as possible, and after costing me money I will simply block it all together.

Yes but my point was, if he got away with it once he will be trying it with other WSOs. Especially as he is a regular here.

It was only my wife that restrained me from jumping on a plain last time something like this happened, so I have to cut off the possibility of it happening again.

Admittedly this is nowhere near as bad as the piracy issue, but it really annoys me all the same. I am a Warrior in the truest sense, and constantly have to fight the edge to kick butt.

DLGuard will be set up by tonight and echecks are already blocked. This may upset some people, but continuing to rip me off is going to cause someone alot more irritation before long.

      Cheers,

        Colin,

Dude, you need to learn to meditate or something. Or maybe medicate, with some of your island's lovely liquid exportables. Our Mr Riley could offer some suggestions on those lines, I suspect.

I had a refund request today you'd have had a canary over. Guy said he already had most of the stuff in the ... wait for it ... folder full of unadvertised bonuses. As in, stuff he didn't even know he was getting when he hit the order button.

I just gave him his refund and had a chuckle over how easily distracted some people are. Or how easily distracted they think I am. Whatev...

        Ooooo. Shiny!

Paul, I've had the same thing happen before and after I refunded the
person two days later he contacted me to tell me that my software
          program didn't work...Duh.. (I disabled it when I refunded). I repled
informing him that it happened because he received a refund.

He replied that he tried to repurchase the product and couldn't.
          (I had blocked him)

I sent him a 10 day trial version Free for him to try and unblocked him from
being able to purchase. This guy has purchased nearly everything I have
          created since...lol

I personally would send him a polite email explaining the problem as it might be a genuine issue and might be able to get resolved if you get no joy from it then i would report them to paypal and they will look into it for you

    COLIN,

I just had a problem with Paypal and it was with a hosting service subscription. They made me sign up to give them money every year - as a renewal payment.

Anyway- both the company and paypal did give my money back BUT - here is what paypal told me and I think it is important
Paypal said: "If it is a product we can refund it - but if it is a service we can not as it is not covered in the buyer protection."

So my thought would be - find a way to sell a SERVICE and includethe product as a part of that service.

Just a thought....any one else have anything to say here?

I just had something similar happen to me for the first time today. I sold a personalized video to someone a few days ago, the buyer sent me an email thanking me for the video and speed of delivery, but then today I received the following message from paypal

"We were recently notified that a payment you received was reversed by the buyer's bank."

I'm not sure if this was caused by lack of funds, or if the buyer was able to reverse the funds somehow?

Hmmm... I had a guy purchase SEO services from me and he would stack it up and get a ton of services at once. I was pleazed to see this... only to find out that his echeck bounced AFTER my worker had sent him all the reports.

Somehow this happened again... I guess the worker did not realize that this same guy had done it before... so he was going the extra mile for this guy and treated him like a regular paying customer. Again... after reports were sent... his payment bounced.

I was getting really irritated and basically flagged this guy in my system... I lost hundreds of dollars (probably close to a grant).

Anyways... he shows up the third time... this time he gets upset that his order is not getting done in time. We purposefully dragged it out JUST in case his payment bounced again.
Well... turns out that this time the payment went through just fine. What am I to do now?

Aside from that though I agree with Paul: with 1000s of transactions so far... I really can't say I have had any problems with that.

If you postpone delivery when people use echecks, make sure you mention it on the sales page and even tell about instant payments with PayPal and echecks.

I've had people get mad over it a few times and I don't really blame them.

      Gary, Good point!
I do this on sites where I accept e-checks.

I allow them to enter their info and proceed to check out. During this
transition time I remind them that the Download link will be delivered when
the transaction is completed. I also inform them that the transaction may
take between 3-5 business days and they will receive a confirmation email
when the transaction has been approved by their bank.

To me, It seems like a no brainer for both parties involved.
