That is my reason. Work for myself. The boss. No limits or set schedules. Love it.

I'm too cranky to have a boss.

Plus it is minus 25 Celsius here right now.
No way in the world am I leaving the house!

Plus - how else can I golf all summer?

    ** Edit - I haven't had a "real job" since 2001.
Worked for myself at my own brick and mortar until 2005 - then IM since

I was a manager of a finance company for two years before I got into IM full time.

Year one: 98.7% of profit goal - not too shabby for a first year manager (first management gig)
Year two: 104.1% of profit goal - getting better... still not too shabby

Beginning of year 3, the supervisor for our area stepped down and in came a 20 year vet that was hell-bent on changing the entire team, regardless of whether they were doing their job well and meeting their goals - it was his team now and things were going to change, like it or not.

My previous sup had let me learn how to make the money, which I did, and this new guy was a royal PITA that was pushing me to do things I knew that would hurt my store - there was nothing I could do since he was with the company for so long and was my boss now, so I said f*ck it, got out and did my own thing.

I've used the same instinct that guided me to achieve in my first couple years with my last company and have been making a nice living online since leaving them. Best part - no one's breathing down my neck because I didn't bow to their will!

    how about a moral reason.

That was mine, I worked for a financial company and my boss lost money in the 2008 stockmarket crash. When i found out she was scamming clients and lost their money i.e. over 2 million dollars USD, didnt tell them....then I bailed.... I did not want to be in a cell like she probably is now.

oh yes, and I knew nothing about it as it happened....and from that day i promised my self I would never work another 9 to 5er or an idiot boss....wanted to be my own boss.

Never looked back, I earn 5 times what I was earning in that crappy job.

And its always good to have morals i reckon. Greed and money will get you nowhere longer term. That is why I love helping people. That money is just a bonus.

When I was a kid my Mum was a single mother and worked full-time to give us the best. As such my sister and I were up at 6am and went to my Aunty's before school and again after school every day until around 5:30pm when Mum picked us up. I HATED IT! I admire my Mum for everything she did for us but I hated going to my Aunty's every day!

When I made the decision to have kids the one thing I wanted to do for my kids was to be there for them - before and after school. I wanted to be able to take them to school and pick them up. My oldest boy is in high school now and so far I'm still able to be home and be there to take them to school every day!

That's the reason I do IM - to be with my kids!

I don’t think that wanting to quit your job only because you want to be your own boss is a good reason for wanting to quit your job. Many times your boss protects your life because your money is guaranteed, and you have no worries. You’ll receive your salary no matter what.

I was my own boss before, but I had I business I didn’t like. Online I’m doing what I always wanted to.

However, I’m not making as much money online as I was making offline… up to the moment. There are too many complications in my main field.

This is why now I’m working also with internet marketing, which is a wonderful field. It’s very simple once you know the basics, and the entire internet cares about ‘how to make money online’. Everyone is your customer! What a fantastic field! I should have discovered it a long time ago, but I kept insisting on building my mental health business… which is too complicated. I was expecting to find support, but my competitors almost killed me.

Now I’m doing what I love doing: I’m writing. I love writing, curing, teaching, explaining, simplifying, etc. This is why I love working online. Making money for me is only a necessity, not a purpose. I only want to pay my expenses and live decently, nothing else. I don’t want to be a millionaire, thank you.

The internet gives me the possibility to do many things at the same time. I love the fact that I can talk with my Brazilian friends immediately, I love discovering interesting websites, I love talking with everyone in forums, blogs, etc. Everyone, from all countries! For me this is what really matters; to be able to work doing what I really like.

  • I don't see why i should have to work for someone else, making them money when if i put in the work i can cut the middle man out and control my time, my income, and my life. it is a great deal of work, but i think there is nothing more rewarding then accomplishing difficult tasks, especially if they pay.

    - Being able to live wherever I want in the world
    - Never having another work-fun or work-family event conflict
    - Never having someone breathe down your neck
    - Bringing excitement and joy into my life
    - Allowing my 1 year old son to see his Daddy any time he wants
    - Being in control of my finances
    - Being able to teach others how to do what I do

Is that enough? I could go all day...

I always wanted to prove that I could do have a business that I started on my own and prove to myself and others that I could take care of myself.

What happens is people don't realize (myself included in the past) that it's not always lots of freedom. In the beginning it is a lot of hard work.

I quite my job a year ago and now have a successful ghostwriting business, however I still work lots of hours and I'm not laying at the beach. Another type business maybe you can. But at least while I'm working on a more passive income I'm making money for once in my life.

Lots of hard work comes before the freedom part, but it is very much worth it. Never give up your dreams and keep on keeping on.

There are too many reasons to list here, but a few that come to mind include not having to answer to a boss, not having to wake up early in the morning, not having to deal with traffic jams on the work commute, and also the almost complete freedom in being able to schedule my day any way I choose to!

  • Eventually your job will get in the way of building your IM business. At a certain point you have to go full time to get it really rolling. That doesn't mean you should quit tomorrow.

This is where I am at now Joe. I still have my day job. I get some things done with IM before work and during lunch. Sometimes my day job sucks the life out of me so much that I dont want to even think about working on my IM projects when I get home.

I have some pretty good income being brought in now from IM and find myself working all weekend on it. Lots of work but worth it. Eventually, to really bring my business to the next level, Im going to have to quit.

Back to the original question, my top reason would be:

No Boss or needy staff members.

Health is something many people take for granted, but having a high-paying (albeit stressful) job can really ruin it over just a few years.

As entrepreneurs, we have a lot more control over what we do and when we do things, and even though we may work very hard, I'd venture to say that it's still far less stressful than a high-paying corporate job due to a multitude of factors.

Working for yourself is far better than getting shouted at by a cranky manager. I wouldn't want to be a follower of somebody, I want to be the one who can open the eyes of many that being an employee is not the only way to make money.

To prove to myself and others that I can
My age is against me in what there is of the market place right now
Length of time out of work also against me
Most jobs bore the hell out of me after I've learned them anyway
Having the time to do what and when I please
Making enough financially to support myself and hopefully help family and friends - haven't achieved this yet but still believe I can
To sum it up, it's all about that feeling of accomplishment - self worth, self esteem. I hate being dependent on others.
Money? Yes, definitely but I do think it's secondary to doing what you love and having a sense of self satisfaction and independence - last but not least, contributing something really worthwhile - money is good but I want to be able to sleep good at night!
