What to do about scam artist?

It's one of those things where you think "it would never happen to me!"

I am an entrepreneur at heart and I am a thinker. I love coming up with cool concepts, scripts, programs etc and I like to think I am fairly good at it. In fact, my friends used to ask me "are you not worried that someone will steal your ideas and put you out of business?"

I used to always laugh and say "nah... even if they steal my ideas, they will never be as successful with it as I am simply because it was not their inspiration."

I still think there is some truth to it, but when my programmer forwarded me an email today from someone who had apparently purchased my hottest publicly available software on gigme5, I froze for a second thinking "you can't be serious!"

Sure enough... some idiot did have my product listed right next to million dollar launch products such as George Brown's "Google Sniper" and Jeff Walker's "Product Launch Formula". Honored as I might have been - I was a little ticked off.

What can I do though? I told the guy that contacted my programmer for support to go and ask for a refund and purchase it through me if he wants my team's support. Was that a fair plead?

No wonder my team and I were overwhelmed with support tickets the last few days - this really isn't fair to my honest/real customers.

I made it very clear in the guides/reports that no one except myself had permission to sell the software. Aside from asking gigme5 to shut this guy down, what else can I do?

I would love to hear some feedback/suggestions/ideas or even experiences from fellow warriors!

I trust you have a google alert set up for your product name and c0mm0n mizellingz so you can catch these instances early bewfore scrapers spread it further.

Complaining to the site's hosting company usually gets someone's attention.

Some marketers make the best of it, offering heavily discounted legit copies to these customers who would probably not have never bought from you otherwise. Some with bigger back-end products actually profit from the viral distribution of a base product.

I do not have Google alert set up. That sounds to be a good idea!

Also about the backend offer you are referring to: yes, the software is loaded with good backend offers (this is assuming the con artist did not tamper with it) so I am not toooo worried. It still gets my blood boiling a bit when my support staff is wasting their time on people who got a scammed version of my software.

I just might send out a complaint to their host... good tip.

I wish I had a way of getting a hold of Georgy and Mr Walker but then again... they probably couldn't care less.
