Ive seen a few around, anyone using one for free and liking it? which service is it?

I have heard good things about GetResponse's free option.

I believe it allows you to have up to 100 people on your mailing list for no monthly charge. However, the free option doesn't allow you much customization in terms of custom thank-you pages and the such.

As well as a paid AS service I also have an account at Listwire which I use for certain niches.

There are one or two drawbacks but I have to say i am very impressed with it.

Delivery seems just as good as the paid service I use and it has been completely reliable. I have also benefited from the free internal builder ad system adding subscribers to my list automatically. Overall very nice and completely free.

  Don't do it, there are all kinds of restrictions that you do not have with Getresponse, Aweber or any other good paid autoresponder. I'd start with Getresponse if you're on a really tight budget, since that will allow you to use it for free initially until you get past 100 subscribers.

  You might try a self hosted ar like infinate responder. It doesnt have all the same options as aweber or the others but it is free and you do not have any restrictions when it comes to your list. You are free to market to them any way you like. The only thing I didnt like about it was the forms it created but if you have html knowledge and know how to create forms its not to bad for free software.
  
  The other thing I didnt like about it is that at the bottom of the pages there is a link that can not be removed according to the terms. But go check it out its not to bad.

  Mail Chimp works pretty well. I've moved past their free service, but I think you get up to 2,000 subscribers free and so many mailings.
  
  I started using them because of a preoccupation with primates, however they are a very innovative company.

I use PHPList, which is free, but needs to be installed on your own server.

  Beware with self hosted ones like this. I used PHPList once and almost lost my hosting account even though I choked the mailing rate right down.
