Is there a way around the 'phone verification' on elance?

Elance is proving an annoying little ass so gain access to- excuse the pun. 1st the exam now phone number.

I hate giving out my number at the best of times and don't wanna be dishing it out to services I haven't tried yet especially as they 'slip in' to the conditions at the end that they may call at random times for market research.

I'll do it if I have to but would prefer a workaround.

I have a rule for my phone, seeing that I never use a phone because I do most of my communication through Skype with my business partners, etc.

I'm on oDesk, Elance, and vWorker and I give out my phone number. But, I have a standing rule, NON-NEGOTIABLE, I DO NOT answer my phone if the number comes up 'blocked', 'private', or isn't in my contacts.

For businesses, partners, etc I always add their numbers to my contact list so it shows when they call. So I just give Elance my number but sense I don't have a number to add them to my contacts, I'll NEVER answer one of there calls, PERIOD!

The only time I give out my phone number is if I will be earning from the site I am signing up for.

If they are going to pay me for services - I don't mind giving my phone number. I've never been called by elance except once when I requested it.

Ye I was just then thinking about it in terms of cost-benefit.

I have about 30 phone numbers, so I just give out one of those.

I have a few numbers to choose from too. Everyone should at least have a Google Voice number, or 2 or 3. Helps a lot. When I feel I do not need to hear from whoever it is but they are mandating a number, I give either them an internet fax number and they can ring that number all they want, or I just make up a number.

Since you work exclusively through workroom message board, giving your phone number for verification is harmless.
