How many is it going to take?

I'm trying desperately to get my blog off the ground, and I haven't even had one visitor yet. I've posted articles, I've been commenting on forums and blogs, and I've tried to generate backlinks through other means. Am I missing something here?

How long have your blog been live? It might take a while before Google ranks you site and includes the weight of all the backlinks. Give it 2 months atleast.

Well you should now have 1 visitor at least because I just went to it

Social bookmark your blog and do some pinging. It also helps to participate more in forums.

Thanks, Steven. I appreciate it. Yay! My first visitor. Technically the site was live in December, but I was waiting for a friend of mine to complete my opt-in form, so I held off promotion. It took them longer than expected to get the form done, so really it has only been a few days that new posts have been being made.

I'm definitely going to be social bookmarking this week, but what is pinging? I've heard the term before, but I'm not familiar with it. I was out of the market for a while and am working on getting back in now.

If you have a Wordpress blog you'll find a section called Update Services in Settings > Writing. You can enter Ping service URLs in there. Do a Google search for Ping services for lots of URLs you can add.

Pinging, Su.Pr, forums, news releases. Google for them and you'll succeed.

How to ping blogs, how to use stumble upon, what is stumble upon, how can I publish a news release.

Try it and see if it works for you. It did for me. Good luck.

It's a very new blog, it takes time. Just keep adding new content to it and keep up with the Article Marketing and Social Bookmarking.

Nice blog by the way - love the theme!

Ditto. The biggest mistake you can make is stop putting content up because you aren't getting traffic. Ultimately the more content you post the more traffic you will get. You could also try syndicating with technorati too

      Hi,

I had a quick look at your site and noticed your post 101 attention grabbing subjects / headlines and I really enjoyed reading it.

Just keep doing more of what your doing and the traffic will come, also you should install a seo plugin or change your posting format so that your pages are named with the post title and not yourblog.com/?p=77

Good looking blog and theme Bella. The IM community definitely needs more voices out there providing people with the tools and motivation needed to get the most out of their online enterprises.

I did notice a couple of small things that could tidy it up.

First is your about page which is still the default for Wordpress. Second is your article structure, your first article used headings and bold to make the structure look good, but none since then have used any special formatting.

One other thing I can think of to help you promote your blog would be to have a twitter acct for it, and a Facebook fan page with a pair of those big web 2.0 buttons on your home page. You can count me in for both of those.

Vongrats on getting started.....don't let anything hold you back...just keep going now.
Don't let little things like opt in boxes stop you from getting the link out there etc.....get your name around and get those visitors coming!

Good luck and here is to your future success

Agree with Wham, 101 along with a few of your articles were really interesting to me. Theme is nice and not an eye sore either.

    Keep up the good work.

The best advice I can offer you Bella is to engage in guest posting. This is one sure-fire technique to generate targeted visitors to your blog.

All you need to do is search for blogs in your niche that allow guest posts, and propose a guest post that will add value to that blog. Your article should include a resource box with links to your blog. Ensure the blog you are proposing too has a reasonable traffic flow (check Alexa stats).

And to get things rolling, you should ask people on the forum to comment on your blog so that new visitors you attract from your guest posts don't feel as though they landed on a deserted island.

If you wait for it to go up in the SERPs it might be a long wait. In the mean time drive traffic to your site from articles. Just keep writing.

Continue blogging and create keyword rich entries to attract a good search engine placement in the results. Dont give up as of this moment yet because it is too early, promote and promote. Use the power of social media sites like twitter and facebook as well.

You only got 10 posts. You need way more content than that before your blog is going to "take off".
Focus on posts with good keywords in the title. Just continue to blog and build backlinks, the traffic will grow...

And I doubt that you didn't have one visitor before this thread, your counter is probably not working if that's the case. ;-)

Continue posting on your blog, and pay attention to keyword density in your posts. Are you trying to rank for specific keywords in Google, and if so, what have you done in terms of optimizing your site and building backlinks to it?

  • Going to take you a looooong time to rank for any major to intermediate keywords, infact probably even the lower traffic keywords may be hard for Internet Marketing. You've chosen a niche that unless you've succeeded in, I see no value in talking about.

For newcomers, the model of blogging about Internet Marketing works better using it as a form of case study. Learn some good IM methods, put them to use and then blog about them and your results. People usually love following these sort of blogs. That's where some of the biggest bloggers originate from.

    Examples:

    zacjohnson.com
    tylercruz.com
    mikeiser.com
    johnchow.com
    johncow.com
    smartpassiveincome.com

    and so much more...

And guess what, they've all blogged about what they did, at least most of them did in the beginning (some of those now make a good enough income from their blog that they no longer do it), and have increased their following in doing so.

People don't want to follow a blog from someone who pops up out of nowhere, they'd much rather follow someone who is willing to provide insights into how they are doing, what's working and so forth.

    Bella,
You may have an issue with your site...

I noticed that Google has quite a few pages indexed, but your permalink structure is different for all indexed pages than your current structure...and Google doesn't have a cached version of your home page.

I'd setup a Webmaster Tools account and submit your sitemap to Google and get them to re crawl the entire site.

They will post errors and other issues within Webmaster account so you can spot them and fix them quickly.

    All the best,
    Jack Duncan

    Bella,
I second what Barry said...great work taking action.

    And it worked.

    Pinging that is...

Google has already indexed and cached your latest post on your blog:
    Pinging Search Engines

Here's another tip that I think can help you in the future.

For you blog, install the Crawl Rate Wordpress Plugin here:
    Wordpress Crawl Rate Tracker Plugin

    It's free.

And you can see exactly when Google, Yahoo, and Bing are crawling your site and your posts...

You should see some steady crawling after your pinging...and as you build links to your site, you'll see more and more traffic on these stats from the bots.

It's also a great way to know how fast your posts are getting indexed.

    Hope this helps,
    Jack Duncan

      Yes and Yes...

You may not get as big of a bang for your buck today, especially from Hubpages, as you would have a couple weeks ago, but they are still worth doing as part of your content cluster.

Consider taking a look at Posterous, too. Pay attention to the autopost function which will allow you to integrate a variety of website properties where you can simultaneously post your original content across a variety of platforms covering video, images, text, and video. It is very cool. It allows you to spread your "content net" to capture more eyes, and to increase the number of backlinks you directly control. It will allow you to make Facebook updates, Twitter tweets, blog posts, video posts, etc...all from one Posterous post, or even an email. Great way to leverage your time.

Check your LSI (look it up) for your aricles and your site, also make sure that your site has good SEO, (common problem with SEO, it getting rid of "common" words like the default text in wordpress that MOST people dont change)
also look into SpinChimp for your article creations, currently they are hosting a ridicules price here on the Warrior Forums! .
