How many WP plugins do you use?

Old, non-supported plugins can slow down your database and even crash your blog. Then it is the ole', which plugin is f*#$%@^g up my site?

There was a great survey online that showed most people use less than 10 plugins. Is that because they don't know what to do with them?

So they can slow down your site but how many is that? On some sites I have 20+ running with no issues.

I would like to hardcode but that has it's issues on upgrades and writing over your file.

Feedback anyone?

    Bill,

With client sites (and our own of course) we use a variety of plugins. Here are a list of the 10 most common plugins we use for our sites:

    1. All in one SEO
    2. WP Syndicator (Small cost involved, but well worth it)
    3. Insights
    4. Broken Link checker
    5. Google XML Sitemaps
    6. Google Analyticator
    7. Yet another related posts plugin (YARPP)
    8. Exclude pages plugin
    9. Custom permalinks
    10. Scribe SEO (paid plugin, but great as well)

Start with these 10 and you will see great results for sure!

Not being funny, but you use as many as you need. No more or no less. Most of my sites have about 5-6. One site has 18.

Generally, you don't have to worry about too many plug-ins causing slow-down or crashes if you keep them updated. There have been times when rogue plug-ins caused conflicts and you get have to deactivate them fast.

I have set a rule for myself to avoid having too many plugins that may cause y blog to slow down; If what the plugin does can be learned and done fairly easy and quick, then I simply hard code, if not I'll use a plugin.

I always install 29 specific plugins on all blogs, but activate them based on the particular blog's requirements.

Typically SEO, Bookmarking, Ads and Cache related plugins.

I use about 10 to 12 of the most common ones already mentioned. Occasionally I come across a WP theme that doesnt support a couple of plugins - so you either change theme or use another plugin or go without.
