Saw this: "Start your own youtube website"...

I saw this offered on ebay -- software that allows you to start your own youtube-style SITE (not channel).

Not through youtube itself, but independently.

What I want to end up with is a main site where people in a certain niche could post videos having to do with that niche (only).

Any recommendations on that?

Any recommended resources or software?

Suggestions? Advice?

Thanks!

Well it's probably just a youtube clone script or something.

If you are thinking about starting your own youtube like site then hey you can give it a shot but keep in mind you can't call it youtube

Would you be interested in my "Microsoft in a Box" kit?

I'll even throw in my "Walmart From Home" kit as a bonus.

You're guaranteed to have the same comparable results as from your "Youtube Clone"

(Yes... there's a tad bit of satire tossed in there... sorry!)

If you can't point to a dozen Warriors on this forum using the same business model, and making money with it, wouldn't that make you worry?

(Just my advice, and as we all know, worth what you paid for it.)

I don't mean create a site that competes with youtube! That WOULD be silly!!

I'm talking about a youtube-ish site *exclusively* for a certain niche (only!).

PS: What? No "Instant Verizon Network in a Box"??

Man that would take an incredible amount of resources to host all those videos and yes you would be competing with YouTube because that's were everyone goes when they are looking for answers, entertainment, etc...

There are also other sites out there like eHow which just consumed expert village. There are other niche related video sites out there as well.

But your biggest hurdle would be YouTube just because they were first and everyone knows what YouTube is and what you can expect to find there.

    Good luck anyway though...

    Timothy...

I think some of our members are being a little
    short-sighted this evening... lol

I understand what you're looking for and, yes,
there is more than one Warrior operating such sites.

Just google the phrase: free you tube clone software
and you'll find plenty of options that should suit your needs.

Your biggest problem will be traffic.

If you can figure out how you're going to get traffic to your site, then "Youtube Clone" it is... go for it.

In fact, video sites can do quite well, I've heard. I admit to not having any video sites... but I long ago got over my original fascination with "turnkey" sites - to the point that the very term instantly turns me into a raging idiot.

So you can safely ignore any satire I bring up when "turnkey" websites are mentioned.

I've learned the hard way that unless you start with a successful method of bringing traffic to your site, it doesn't matter what site you put up.

Even if it looks exactly like Youtube, or Ebay, or whatever...

Starting your own video site is not a joke.

You must consider couple of things:

    1) Script engine. The engine of your web page (the clone script of youtube). There are tons of different scripts out there. Some of them are good, some of them are total junk. Some scripts will be very bad for your server, they will load slowly, they will be buggy and it's endless mountaint of tears.

You want to invest a lot of time (and money) into finding a great script that can provide you everything you need (scalability, ease of use, modifications, free of bugs, great UI etc etc etc)

    2) Another thing what you need to think ahead is hosting. If you think you can run a youtube type of site on a shared hosting then you should think twice. Of course, you could host it on, eg. bluehost, but your videos will load slowly etc etc (it's a shared hosting).

So you want to start with VPS or dedicated server. Servers requires some knowledge, so if you don't know how to use them, you will need a tech guide to do the server configuration and technical management. That means you will need to pay monthly fees for your server (not cheap, because videos are making bandwith and disk space go wild) and your techie..

These are 2 major things you need to think before making a decision
