Nigeria is #1 for making money online

I just happened to be checking out some keywords in Google Insights today and for a laugh, I put in the term "making money online".

In the Regional Interest chart, you can see Nigeria is streets ahead of the competition.

Why did/has Nigeria become such a mecca for people wanting to make money online? Obviously Nigeria has a bad reputation from the infamous scammers, but I'm sure there's plenty of legitimate Nigerian marketers around.

I can understand that most people in Nigeria don't have much money, but why don't any other African nations appear in the list?

maybe it is the desire of africans to affirm, to show that the world has a wrong picture about their nations.Nigeria may set the tone in Africa into internet marketing.

I think many of the scammers were intelligent people who fell into a less than fortunate way of earning money. The world is getting wise to scammers. I think that, increasingly, Nigerians are realising that there is good money to be earned online for those who can work hard.

Make no mistake, it is hard work for those in Nigeria. The world distrusts them and in many instances it is much harder for them to do even simple things such as make or accept payments. I know this because I have a colleague in Nigeria who I help from time to time and I "take my hat off" to all those who are making a success of internet marketing, despite the difficulties.

Scammers are everywhere, not just Nigeria. I sincerely hope that it wont be too long before the world starts to realise that Nigeria is changing and is a country full of determined people, keen to take their place online and offlline. Members here, such as Dial and Proflynks, will help that change.

This is true. Honest Nigerian internet marketers have to overcome some fairly serious hurdles right out of the gate just to be able to do business on the internet.

It's not impossible though. I'm sure the ingenious and determined marketers there have found a way of doing so, just as this 20 year old girl from Iran has:

God has risen for us here a father who has taken the responsibilities of raising other successful IM that will even beat the US or London records. We are working hard here now. Like what Believers time said in his thread; being a Nigerian is no excuse for a failure. Nigeria will win and rule the world one day.

    Keep it up Niger.

Its been that way for almost five years,
While this does not fix the entire problem of those type of visitors, I typically block the entire country ip block from accessing any of my sites or servers.

While many can use proxies, etc, most dont and public proxy block lists are updated for us on an hourly basis mostly.

These jack offs do nothing more than try and commit CC fraud for your downloadable content, steal and copy your content or use your info to create legit looking scam sites, etc

I believe Nigeria has the most highly educated general population
in all of Africa. When the political situation turned sour a few years
ago, hardworking, intelligent, educated good people became
desperate. A relative few created a bad image that has now tainted
    the entire country.

    I don't know the answer.

Good... I am so happy that this going on here. Nigeria is growing but only a very few Nigerians are seeing this. I feel for my fellow Nigerians who are in diaspora. One question I have for them: IF WE ALL LEAVE THE COUNTRY, WHO WILL BUILD OUR HOME( COUNTRY) FOR US? They stay over there and say Nigeria is not good, Nigeria this and that. An uncle of mine once came back for the USA and wore a shirt that read: God Bless America. My question to him was didn't God bless Nigeria? All he could say was No. I just wonder when we could ever learn from the Americans and other developed countries.

I love my country-- I AM PROUD TO BE A NIGERIAN, AN AFRICAN!

That said, it is not easy to be an internet marketer in Nigeria because you will be faced with so many factors that could easily undermine your goal. As far as Internet Marketing in Nigeria is concerned, over 90% never actually made money online but go from place to place saying : Learn How To Make Money Online.... Blah Blah Blah

I could have joined this group of people long ago, but my conscience will always ask me: Have You Made any Money online? So I did not go that route.

I actually wanted to make that money before I teach it.

Another thing I hate is that so many Nigerian Internet Marketers adon't really care about you or your problem, irrespective of the financial lack people are facing. I call them the SHARK. They just want to feed on some prey(newbies) and grow fat in no time.

I am presently having an Issue with one of them right now. Initially, he was good but when he felt he has arrived, the joined the SHARKS. I paid him N4,000 in November ,2010 to help me set up a site.... And till now no site and he has refused to refund my money. I feel so bad about this because I had a plan to do something with that money immediately I finish my exam( am a student). He kept giving me silly excuses... At last, it became clear that he was playing pranks with me. I feel bad because right now, I have nothing on me. How I will manage to feed myself when I get back to school next week is something I can not explain. I sent him series of text messages,no reply. I called him on phone but he has refused to pick my calls ,even today.

The same person is a member of this forum. I have decided not to mention he name for obvious reasons because a friend said I should hold on till Monday next week. Till then, I will just hold my peace.

I WANT TO WARN EVERY NIGERIAN NEWBIE SEEKING TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE TO BE VERY CAREFUL. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF IT IS TOP NIGERIAN INTERNET MARKETERS THAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU DEALING WITH DR. .... BE CAREFUL. RESPECT YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY... THIS PEOPLE ARE ALREADY.
