I have a traffic problem

I"m brand new to this whole IM thing, and I need some help.

I have an online employment website that ranks #1,2,3,5,6 on yahoo for broad match @52mil results and #1,2,3 rank on google broadmatch @15mil results. I made it to number 1 and am happy about it, but....

I have less than 25 visitors a day.

So, What do I do to increase traffic?

I guess I'm supposed to add relevant content using a complimenting keyword that gets more traffic than my keyword? Thus incorporate a higher traffic keyword in my site and try to rank for that keyword too? I mean, is that it in a nutshell?

I could also begin making blog posts, forum post etc. in my niche with the anchor text being the new keyword; pointing to that page of my site, but how do you find blogs/forums that allow you to put up a link?

Can someone with real experience help me?

Thats the very problem I'm having. When I did the key word research, the tool I was using was experiencing umm..."technical difficulties" because it said there was much more traffic than there really is. I've since checked the keyword using Google keyword tool and the monthly is only around 50.

So now I think I'm supposed to be trying to rank for other keywords with more traffic?

I just doubled the content of the site. We'll see if that helps. I also just added 15 or so preliminary pages(setup only), I only put up mnimal content but I'll fill out each one of them as time goes on this month.

That still leaves me backlinking and article posts on my site. I added 4 new articles each centered around a key word, but I haven't done a single back link because I don't know how to find forums/ blogs to post on.

    Hey,

Don't let people confuse you by focusing on ranking top in Google.

Rankings do NOT equal visitors - or money.

Do not focus on where you are ranked - it's irrelevant.

Focus on where your traffic comes from and how to get more of it.

If you try to succeed while only focusing on rankings - you'll get great rankings and not make money.

Focus on which people make you money and where they are, how they find you - and getting more of them to find you better.

Maybe video marketing is the thing that will make the difference, maybe something else - you need to do some research on the people and stop thinking about search engines.

Andy, thanks for the great advice. I think that's why I posted here. I've come to the conclusion that I need traffic, and that ranking is not all that.

Dont' get me wrong. I'm glad I've gotten this far. I set up the site, gotten content on there, got it ranking well. I'm proud. But now I'm at that next step. I must find my visitors. I have to reach them, or find out where they are going. I did some more keyword research and found a few other related keywords that have thousands of monthly searches. That's where my customers are right now. So how do I get to them? That's where I'm at.

I am new in Warrior Forum but not new in IM and SEO.
I would say that search engine ranking is the best way to get Good, Relevant and Free traffic. If you had problem in your keyword research tool then it's your fault to start with those keyword.
90% traffic use search engines to search what they want to and if you are good in keyword research then you can find good "Conversion" keywords for your product sales and you can also find good "Traffic" keyword for CPA. I would say that you are right and have to work on some other good keywords after research.

Check out some tutorials on Affiliorama that will help you and there are number of website which will tell you difference between traffic keywords and conversion keywords.
Let me tell you the key of success. Remember if any one can get sales from search engine traffic then you can also do that. If you are not able to do so, then it will be only due to lake of information that the other person have. Try to learn those things. Run after knowledge,,,,, Money will come after you for sure....

You want real experience building a site and driving traffic? I have that.

You know what you need to do more than anything else?

Go out to your audience and be active where they are, google isn't the only way to find a site. First, identify where your audience congregates and then make yourself known in those locations. They could be forums (like this one!), youtube, twitter, facebook, blogs, etc.

Get out there and participate where your audience is participating and your traffic will rise substantially.

No doubt about it. I have to identify my target audience and then participate with them. "Online employment" is very broad though.

Any suggestions on where to find forums where I can build my backlinks? I"m not talking about spam either. I don't mind spending hours becoming a regular at a forum.

Do I need to make sure a post is ranked as a seperate page of google before I start backlinking to it? The articles I post on my site are at the bottom of the home page, but also in the archives section. I think that gives each one it's own page. Does that article need to indexed before I start backlinking to it?

ok. so I've been getting some great feedback. Thanks folks. I've made some changes to the site because of it. I'm now working on backlinking to the 5 new articles I just put up. Each article is centered around a different, more traffic keyword. We'll see what happens. If this works, I think I can finally say that i've got my head wrapped around this whole thing.

Dude, the best piece of advice I can give you is that you NEED A SYSTEM. Guessing here and there in the hope that something might work is only going to lead to further frustration, loss of time and wasted money.

Stop doing what youre doing, and think about how you can use an actual strategy or business system to methodically go about building, and promoting your sites.

You should have everything mapped out, before you start doing ANYTHING.

Finding a system that works these days would take longer than figureing this all out myself. When I started out, I tried this and that. All waisted time and money. Now, instead of looking and hoping for a system that works. I do. I take action. I fail. I do some more. That's how I am where I am. The research I've done. The advice that has resonated time and again from experienced people was get a good keyword, make a site, promote the site with backlinks to get organic traffic. That's what I'm doing. The only thing I screwed up on was using that stupid software that messed the kw results. I can't change that now. So I'm on to new/complimentary key words.

If you know of 'system" that works. A map to the road to successful promotion of sites, Let's hear it. I'm always eager to learn something.

firstly i would recommend that you use google keyword tool instead of your own for more accurate figures. Then try ranking for a keyword with 3-5 words. This will be much easier to rank for.

Repeat this process for a few more keywords and you should see results

I think I just did this. I chose 5 new keywords using google keyword tool. Then I wrote articles around these words with 3-5% density. Then I began to backlink using those keywords as the anchor text.

I guess the thing I was doing wrong was only trying to rank for one keyword. Unfortunately that keyword doesn't have traffic.(my softwares mistake) So here I am now trying to rank for other more popular keywords.

Andy hit the nail on the head.

You will need to find out where your customers are. Don't fish an empty pond, go where the fish are at.

Now that you have your analytics installed make sure you try four or five different traffic strategies, forums, blog commenting, article marketing, or your classifieds idea.

Do at least four (more if possible) so you can compare what different traffic methods work best for you.

Once you have a week or months worth of data you can focus on the place you are getting the most traffic from.

Make sure to test and revise to make sure you are doing that method of traffic properly.

Article marketing is completely different skill than blog commenting. So test, test and retest. Until you find the right method and then poor everything you got into it.

What I see that you really need is TARGETTED traffic. You may rank well but those keywords may NOT be targetted. Try to write down 50 or more targetted keywords. Ask your friends whether or not they will be searching for those keywords. Narrow down to those that are more TARGETTED keywords and optimize them. If you are rank with TARGETTED keywords, it will bring in traffic. But if ranking on non targetted keywords then it will not.

    Hope this helps.

I did not see anyone mention this specifically. If I missed it, I apologize in advance.

But does your Page Title and Page Description actually invite people to click your link.

Having a page one ranking and very little traffic tells me that your title and description probably suck, and that would explain why no one is clicking your links.

I changed my title and it nearly doubled my CTR.

With that being said, you want to be careful when changing the <TITLE>
tag due to the chances of your SERP ranking to be negatively affected,
especially when you're in the #1 position for a given keyword phrase.

Now just simply repeat the process for another URL going after another

1.) You don't "need" to ping your site after article submissions. And
which also, by the way you've worded that question, makes me want to
clarify your question: do you mean whether your need to ping THE
NEWLY SUBMITTED ARTICLE that points back to your site after you
submit it? Or are you questioning whether or not you need to ping
your SITE after you submit articles that point to it? In any case,
pinging something more or less "helps speed along" the indexing
process. I wouldn't worry a ton about whether or not simply
"pinging" a page will cause a huge jump in SERP rankings.

2.) You don't "need" to update your Google sitemap. As long
as your pages (URLs) have relevant links pointing back to them
the SEs (including Google) will find, crawl & add ("index") your
page sooner or later anyway. With that being said, having a
"clean" sitemap to submit to Google certainly wouldn't hurt.
