Selling Books on Amazon - Free Money?

Another way to make money from Amazon is to list books for sale. While it doesn't bring in a lot of money (depending on what books and how many you have listed), it can bring in a couple hundred dollars per year with almost no effort.

I have a bookshelf with nothing but books for sale listed on Amazon (easy to find them this way when they sell.)

Couple of points:

Unless you join their monthly paid marketplace, you can only list books that are already in their database.

It is important to look at the sales rank. A general rule of thumb I use is that ratings over 1,000,000 take at least a year to sell.

I will rarely list anything for less than $25.00 or so as their fees are a significant portion of the selling price for books less than that. BUT the net is usually more than you could get elsewhere.

To help standout from the crowd, I will ship most books via USPS Priority mail and just add that cost to the price of the book. And then I will state in the listing that the book will be mailed via USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. The delivery confirmation is free when the postage is done online (I generally use PayPal.)

I don't like media mail (personal preference) for these books as I don't trust the delivery method and time.

Oh, Free Money? If you know what to look for, you can find books for less than $1.00 at flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, etc. Just make sure what you buy will sell at a price point high enough to make it worthwhile.

So $25.00+ for a $1.00 or less book is almost free money.

And FYI, the people who sell books for $0.01 are making their profit on the shipping charge.
