I just received a mail from Amazon today. Whats your opinion on this?

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Associate,

We're writing from Amazon.com to remind you about our policy of not permitting Amazon trademarks to be used in domain names. We sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm for the Amazon brand, but under trademark law, we have a responsibility to watch how others use Amazon's trademarks. In addition, we want to avoid confusion from customers who see the name and wrongly assume the Web site and its content is sponsored or written by Amazon. By requesting that you use another domain, we are attempting to make sure that there is always a clear distinction between the official "Amazon" site and other third party sites. For more information, please review the Associates Program Operating Agreement:

Please choose a new domain name and transfer your content to that name. Amazon will purchase your domain for the initial registration price, provided that you agree to not register any domains containing Amazon brands, or a misspelling of those brands, in the future.

We value our relationship and appreciate your cooperation and prompt attention to this matter. If you have any questions or wish to discuss the matter, please use the Contact Us form available on Associates Central or by following this link:

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Gary - Associates Account Specialist

That's the nicest Cease & Desist letter I've ever seen

No, you can't use Amazon in your domain, unless the site is about rainforests or something totally unrelated to Amazon.com. You didn't list your name, but if your intention is to promote products as an Associate, then Amazon has a legitimate concern that visitors could be confused about who owns the site.

I got a letter like this once from eBay, and it was not nearly as nice--they threatened a lawsuit, and would NOT buy the domain from me.

I'd say sell them your name, take the money, and buy a name containing the main keyword of the products you're trying to promote.

Well it should be pretty obvious that registering a trademark isn't allowed. Not just with amazon, but with any other trademark.

And I agree with gcintermed that this is the nicest S&D letter I have ever seen. Do that with facebook, apple or ebay and see what you get

    Two comments.

First, I agree that this is the nicest cease and desist letter I've ever seen or head of. Cudos to Amazon for taking this approach!

Second, you should have known better than to use their name in one of your domains given your join date to the Warrior forum.

Since they own the trademark, they have the legal right to tell you not to use their name in a domain name. If they were nice about it, consider yourself lucky.

If you're not sure about a trademark, do a search prior to buying a domain name. But big names like Amazon should be obvious.

At least they sent you a nice email ... most don't.

Well, I wouldn't be too hard on the guy. Some companies don't mind, or don't do anything to stop you, especially if you are promoting their brand or products.
I've seen tons of domain names with Google and Twitter trademarks in them.

well, this is a site that I use to promote Amazon coupon code. I have put a lot of efforts in promoting the site and now seem all my efforts went into vain. At least a lesson learn.
