Hi, what's the story with using content from Amazon.

For example, if I'm promoting a product, can I use snippets from their reviews? For graphics.

Also, if the product I'm promoting has a video review, can I embed this on my site?

I have asked the customer service ppl at amazon associates this before and they said that affiliates are not authorized to reproduce information on the product pages.

We can only use the widgets and link builders available in the affiliates page.

You should drop them a line to re-confirm this.

    have a great week ahead!

I know for the most part it is boring reading, but if you are (or are going to be) an Amazon Associate (affiliate) then you should read FOR YOURSELF what Amazon requires. Here are a few pages to read, not just skim over, to help you comply with the program requirements.

      Associates Program Participation Requirements

      Associates Program Operating Agreement

Amazon.com Product Advertising API License Agreement

No, not the product description. I want to use snippets from the reviews.

Ie: "..these are the best headphones I've used..." Gary, Uk

There is more than just product description information at those links.
          8. You will not add to, delete from, or otherwise alter any Content in any way, including by adding additional information (e.g., you may not insert words into a customer review), except that you may resize Content consisting of a graphic image in a manner that maintains the original proportions of the image or truncate Content consisting of text in a manner that does not materially alter the meaning of the text or cause the text to become factually incorrect or misleading.
Using a snippet is definitely not inserting words. The prohibition against deleting from content (including customer reviews) is to ensure information presented on other site matches the information on Amazon's site and to ensure potential customers are not misled. Using a snippet, with a link to the full customer review, shouldn't be considered as deleting from the content since the full review is presented via the link. However, this is just my opinion based on my experiences. As mentioned by others, Amazon has the final say in the matter so contacting Customer Service would settle any questions you might have.

          Peace

I have personally never done this or even tried but I would say probably not. I am not sure the products that you are selling but you would be better in gathering data for your products and making your own review. This way it is your content and there can be no trouble.

I have used snippets from their reviews with a link at the end for people to read the full review. I didn't think there was a problem with it if you include the link to the full review page.

I have done this too and i don't see that it's a problem as it is simply driving honest traffic to the full review.

If I use images and host them on my site, I link them to the relevant Amazon page too.

I do the same thing. Basically the page becomes kind of a review of the reviews, and points them to the review page. I've found linking to the 5 star review page converts better on most products than the product page itself.

If you try to pass the content or images off as your own, then no. If it is clear that it is a screenshot taken from Amazon then I don't think you would have too many problems.

There is no way you can just say it is fine unless you have asked Amazon themselves and they have said so. Even if one person had been given permission to do this by Amazon you would still need to get the permission yourself.

Using any images or content from other sites is actually against the law. So I would never just say it is fine. Obviously the chances of you ever winding up in trouble from doing so are quite slim but it's not to say it is ok to do.

IANAL, but from reading over the associates requirements and operating agreement several times, I have come to the conclusion that as long as you are using the images and content to promote their products as a associate, you can use any product images, reviews, content that is on their site.

    From the operating agreement:

    11. Limited License

Subject to the terms of this Operating Agreement and solely for the limited purposes of advertising Products on, and directing end users to, the Amazon Site in connection with the Program, we hereby grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to (a) copy and display the Content solely on your site; and (b) use only those of our trademarks and logos that we may make available to you as part of Content (those trademarks and logos, collectively, “Amazon Marks”) solely on your site and in accordance with the Associates Program Trademark Guidelines.
The license set forth in this Section 11 will immediately and automatically terminate if at any time you do not timely comply with any obligation under this Operating Agreement, or otherwise upon termination of this Operating Agreement. In addition, we may terminate the license set forth in this Section 11 in whole or in part upon written notice to you. You will promptly remove from your site and delete or otherwise destroy all of the Content and Amazon Marks with respect to which the license set forth in this Section 11 is terminated or as we may otherwise request from time to time.

Also, in the program requirements, it states that...

    5. You will use Content solely in accordance with the terms of the Operating Agreement and within the express scope of the license granted in Section 11 of the Operating Agreement. Without limiting the foregoing, you will (a) use Content solely to send end users and sales to the Amazon Site and will not link any Content to, or in conjunction with any Content direct traffic to, any page of a site other than the Amazon Site (however, parts of your site that are not closely associated with the Content may contain links to sites other than the Amazon Site); and (b) link each use of the Content solely to the related Product detail page or other relevant page of the Amazon Site and not to any other page.

    and with regards to reviews:

IHMO, they would not dictate how you CAN use the content if you were not allowed to use it.

I have never read anything in the docs that states that you cannot use the images or content for your associates site.

If anything, Amazon will tell you to knock it off if they don't like it... that's it. They're not going to steamroll you in court for a site that you make a few hundred bucks a month from.

Agree, but I haven't reached that skill level yet. I'm just playing to my strengths, and I know how to do this.

I think there's some really good potential with amazon. I'm going to keep learning, I keep hearing "it's all in the list"

The plan is to have 20 decent amazon niche sites up, earning not too much on their own, but together, hopefully a decent passive income stream.

Can you be a bit more specific nerrutis... I see you're promoting a clickbank product yourself... I have one, it's on page one of google for the past 3 weeks, and I've only had one sale.
