Absolutely - a blog is great for your readers, you can put up reviews of products (with affiliate links embedded) and is good for SEO too.

Choose a theme which is eye catching but with a clear layout that is easy for the eye to follow.

Personally I think using wordpress for a website is the way to go. Not only are they easy to set up, they are easy to monetize in many different ways.

I think the main question to ask yourself is:
Will I write in this blog on a continuing basis?

And if you're not going to write regularly then be sure to remove all the date and time info from your posts so that your posts at least appear to be fresh. You'll need to do some editing with your blog theme.

That's a great tip that I learned a few months ago. I think that nothing hurts the credibility of a blog than posted that are very old. It makes the reader think that the information is outdated.

Blogging is a good place to start, but don't limit yourself to just blogs. Different visitors like different things. Some visitors are attracted to static sites, while others are attracted to blogs. Therefore, I say... do both.

You are right to go with a Wordpress blog. They are easy to edit and resemble a static site better than any other blog.
