I have to run to church so I'm gonna make this fast. Yesterday at our church we ran a bake sale. With the recession, sales were not good. With only 30 minutes left in the sale, we only mad $450. That was after 4 hours of being open. So I put on my marketing cap and told the ladies working the sale to do the following: 1. Load a bunch of stuff on a cart. 2. Take it out to the main room outside of the sale. 3. Say the following: "The Bake Sale Is Closing For The Day!" "This is your LAST chance to get cakes, pies, cookies and home made rye bread at WHOLESALE prices." My thinking was as such. 1. Maybe some people didn't know about the room with the sale. 2. Some of the people working the other tables may not have had a chance to get to the sale, so bring it to them. Make it easy to get the items. The ladies walked around for 30 minutes and came back with $150. We ended up with $600 for the day, only $75 short of last year when we weren't in such a horrible recession. Yeah, I had to pull out some last minute marketing tricks, but they worked. Point is, marketing works whether it's online OR offline. You just have to know what you're doing. |

Steven, That's great for a quick note for all of us! I recently wrote an article about using offline marketing to drive your online business--no big news to you, I'm sure--but you demonstrate how a marketing mindset can improve your bottom line wherever! P.S. I'm off to church at 10:30, and with that on my mind, actually came to the forum thinking, "Probably nothing new from Steven, as he's in church this morning." Glad I was wrong! |
