Amazon Review Sites - Quality and Affiliate Links

So as I switched over to the 'Pretty Link' plugin (amazing plugin btw!), I've noticed a slight decrease in 2 things:

1. My ranking

2. Clickthroughs

I went from having my direct Amazon affiliate link being the hyperlink on the text, to a No-Follow 'Pretty Link' (it's a redirect page like: mysite.com/amazonreview).

Could the No-Follow be causing the ranking to fall? I've steadily been on rank 7 for the past 6 days for a keyword, and now that I added this, I've went to 12.

And for clickthroughs - in your personal opinion, would you distrust a link if it says: "Buy from Amazon now!" - but the hyperlink at the bottom left hand side of your browser doesn't same 'amazon.com/......' ?

Quality Articles

Playing no mind games (copywriting), beings its a review site, does the quality (such as English grammar) matter when people are looking at your reviews?

I'm pretty low on money at the moment and can't afford to pay $10 for quality articles, but paying only $2 to a Filipino gets me lower quality articles. I HATE WRITING with a burning passion, so honestly... I won't do it myself (don't criticize me for that statement ).

Would YOU sacrifice quality over quantity when it comes to review articles? (My review articles is about 400 words long: short intro, short description, pros/cons list *bullet points*, and a short closing)

Thanks for any suggestions!

  • The great majority of web users don't know what a URL is, let alone know how to make sure an outgoing link is to Amazon before clicking it. I don't think it will hurt you, *unless* you're targeting a niche where the users are extremely tech savvy, e.g. "Advanced PHP book reviews" or something.

I do think that grammar and quality matters in reviews: The purpose of the review is to pre-sell the product and bad content will affect your credibility in the review.

One approach is to pay for less-than-perfect content, and then budget some extra time to run through it quickly and fix the most egregious grammar/spelling/logic problems.

That probably has little or nothing to do with your rankings, goog is constantly jumping things around, now more than ever.

I wouldn't put "Buy Now From Amazon" as an anchor for your aff links anyways, just "Click here to find out how you can save x%" or whatever will probably bring your click through rate up.

Find a way to get better quality content! While it's true you're trying to 'intercept a buying decision' as I've heard it put, quality content with real information will prime your readers better and entice them to check out how they can 'save X%' on said product.

Don't be afraid to offer some negative info about the product as well, you're trying to provide value and gain some trust.

Quality is a part of credibility.
Also I agree with pdrs, it seems like right now Google is going crazy with the new algorithm changes.

Roland Hop - I agree entirely. Credibility is more important than ever and with the Farmer update it's only going to continue that way.

Is anyone experiencing difficulties or impacts form the update already or is it too early yet?

    • I also use the pretty link plugin, but not on my amazon sites. I think amazon is the one affiliate link you can leave because people will see it and immediately associate (excuse the pun) with it.
