What's the best way to make a site "go viral" in 12 Hours???

I think this could be a helpful link for everyone who needs to send something "viral" !!

I am always up for the seasonal approach to marketing, and it doesn't get any better than Christmas! So I thought....what could be a great "hook" for Christmas?? How about FREE Sugar Cookie Recipes??!!

http://www.recipessugarcookies.com

So I built this site, added my free content, added my links to other "related sites" added my web 2.0 bookmarking pop-up, added my "tell a friend" email link. And now......

It's ready to go!!!

So where would you guys start??? I did a Squidoo lens and made a Hubpages site....

Sugar Cookies Recipes - Award Winning !

I guess I could do a digg.com post or a twitt about it??????

I could post a YouTube video of my daughter and I making cookies????

I could email it to all my friends and say pass this along???

ANY suggesting will be apprectiated....

social media is the way to go. for things to go viral you need a huge amount of friends/followers whatever. the social bookmarking sites replace those "friends", but are very untargeted.

I think all your ideas are great, especially the video, and telling your friends. Question for you: How could you increase the number of "friends" you have to the point they would recommend you to others? If you are just getting this started, it would fantastic if you could put yourself in the situation where you are talking to dozens of people every day about your product, whether than be on the phone, in person, though email, etc. How could you "go crazy" talking to people in the coming days?

Thanks dvduvall and allegro! Excellent points.... I am convinced that the real process of "going viral" is based on the "why" or "what" or "who" behind the reason a person feels compelled to "forward" or inform others regarding the post..... Is the post topic a concept that creates an emotional response? does it invoke a "strong" passion in the reader to want to share the "message" that the post is conveying? If I used these criteria to evaluate my topic, I would want to "share" this post with people who are passionate about: baking, Christmas cookies, the nastalgic emotion that Christmas cookies represent, people who are passionate about sharing recipes.......just my general observations.

If anybody else feels otherwise or wishes to expand, please share your thoughts. I will attempt to target some sites with my post that could impact this process. Iw ill share all my results here as the "viral" traffic grows.

    Short answer: a press release.

However, don't post it online (although you can, to get backlinks.)

Write the press release -- you'll find many templates online -- and send it to your LOCAL media. Send it to local newspapers, radio stations (send to the news director), and TV stations (again, send it to the news director.)

Make sure you add a photo of you and your daughter. Just use your cell to take the snap, the papers will send their photographers if they like the story, so the quality of the image doesn't matter.

The reason you should send your press release to your LOCAL media is that other media will pick it up, and you never know, maybe a national paper will pick up the story if it's cute, or unusual, or has enough human interest... and of course, you'll get other (excellent) links from newspaper sites.

Good luck. It should work well, so just do it, the faster the better.

    Cheers
