Hi fellow warriors,

I recently took the plunge and decided to start a coupon site to add to my portfolio. But I have hit a brick wall:

I've just built the site, added an about us page, privacy policy, contact us page and coupon categories. The home page has a "coming soon" message on it.

Anyway, I applied to 6 advertisers at CJ and was declined by 3. One advertiser said they not looking for anymore coupon related sites and the others declined my application because the site is still under construction.

How in the world do I establish this site if I don't have any coupons to promote?

I thought I could just pick a few advertisers and start promoting related keywords associated to coupons but there is too much of a risk if I do this. What if that advertiser doesn't accept me when I do apply?

Any help or advice is welcome!

Thank!

~Ashley

These days you need to give a lot for free in order to sell a little.

In your case populating the site with coupon codes for which you receive no commission may be the necessary 1st step toward a site that would be accepted for paid coupon display. Priming it with some content should help it get onto the search engine's radar.

Can't you copy coupons that have no affiliate code in their links from other coupon sites?

Exactly. Go and get coupon codes from other sites and get your site started. Once you begin to get a following you can go and apply for these programs and by then you will have a proper and working site to show them.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, i can do that, but I just realized I've been walking around with tunnel vision here, because there are other ways of getting coupon codes.

Thanks webapex, I think I am going to follow your advice. I appreciate your input!

How about adding coupon codes from namecheap to start off with.

I am focusing on software, hardware, telecommunications peripherals. But I think I will have to look at other alternatives apart from what is on offer at CJ.

      Thanks!
