INTERNET MARKETING

Looking for best practices or proven ways to create an email list. What tactics and approaches seem to work better than others in getting people's attention? Contests? Giveaways? Creatively positioned PLR?

I'm speaking from a pure opt-in, Squeeze page approach.

Giving away something of value in my option is the best way but you also need a great headline to grab the persons attention.

Split testing your squeeze page is also key to improve your optin rate all the time

If you have the funds, the fastest way would be to pay for a solo ad in a targeted newsletter with a wide audience.

Once you got some subscribers, you can do ad swaps and JV deals with other marketers.

  Like Michael said, the fastest way is to buy solo ads. Check out the JV area of the forum as their are a lot of people that will do this for you.
  
  If you dont have the money, then article and video marketing will work too. Just link back to your FREE OFFER page. It will take some time to build your list this way but keep promoting your squeeze page and the subscribers will come.

  There's 1000s of ways of growing a list, but the quickest and best results come from leveraging the success of others.
  
  Giveaways and adswaps WILL grow you a list, but its slow.
  
  What's much quicker is to find ways to get big list owners and popular websites owners to SEND you visitors to your squeeze page.
  
  I'm not going to blow my best secrets in here, but its MUCH easier to get successful IMers to work with you than you think... you just have to make them a compelling offer that works for them.
  
  A few ideas to get you started.. create a cheap product (like $7 - $17) and offer 100% commissions to affiliates for promoting it (cheap way of growing a list).... offer to create some content for someone else's membership site, in return for them mailing out for you... offer your free gift to other marketers as a bonus that they can add onto their thankyou page so their customers get more free stuff and you get the lead....
  
  The secret is to find ways of making things work so that EVERYBODY (you, the other marketer AND their subscribers and customers) is happy :-)

Write articles, post in popular forums in your niche, comment on popular blogs in your niche, start a facebook fanpage in your niche.

I think aweber has all the answers in thier blog. They know better than anyone else. When you sign with them they send you daily emails with tips on how best to build your list etc.

I think glynlafferty is spot on with his response there.

In any given situation if you can add value to somebody else they will pay attention. From then on it's about showing how you can continue to add value (this is where you consider pros/cons of freemium and how you differentiate)

You can also create a product and have an e-mail form on there. If you have a bunch of affiliates promoting you will have people sign up.

1. Solo Ads
2. Ad swaps
3. Article Marketing
4. Giveaways
5. Forum Marketing
6. Software Marketing
7. Blog Commenting
8. Video Marketing
9. PPC
10. 100% commission products

These are all great techniques that can buid a list quickly. However, determing which is best for you will depend on what you like and your budget. How much do you have available to spend and what are some of your strengths? If you answer these maybe we can help you tailor a technique to fit your business.
