It makes sense why he would sell the company. But that would seem to be quite risky to buy a company like that for $1M, but what do I know?

I wonder what the sales have been.

Have a look at the actual eBay auction listing:

iFart Mobile - Own All Rights to World-Famous Fart App! - eBay (item 120692008893 end time Mar-11-11 11:00:42 PST)

He lists all the profits up to date. He claims they have made around $500,000 from iFart so far - that is the amount after iTunes have taken their 30% cut.

You could be very impress if you knew what people pay for. I would first pay for the sound of a fart than for an ebook with the statement that you are going to win $50.000 in a month on autopilot and that you don't need any experience or skils.

People buy empty domains on sedo.com for that amount so nothing surprises me nowadays. I just need to be at the end of the one of these sales

Now that is funny Mark. Afer all the "guru's" were falling all over themselves last couple of weeks promoting that thing they probably all need to sell off some assets to cover their expenses (losses?).

Yeah I am pretty sure that's what it is. I think he is sensing that his app is about to reach a saturation point and he wants to flip it and move on.

EDIT: BTW, I have iFart on my iphone

Or, as he says in techcrunch, he just needs to be able to focus more on his main project. In the tech world, startups and software companies get bought and sold all the time, and from time to time real bargains can be had.

Just curious, how do you know? Just wondering if there is a report or something that tracks that like All Facebook does for the apps.

I don't doubt it because anyone buying a one million dollar business will ask to see the financial statements, etc.

I used to believe in joel comm, but not anymore. This product is juvenile and then some. Hey, if a 12 year old had come up with it, I would probably think it was a funny app. That said some boys never grow up. Like it is hard to believe he is a grown man.

Sadly, some one should tell him that fart jokes are very funny when you are seven.

That's like saying all kids toys should be created by kids? Obviously 700,000 or so other people, including Lance Armstrong and Demi Moore, don't agree with you.

Actually, I'm impressed by this. He's gone up in my estimation.

Taking the fact that his app is about apps look at what he actually achieved.

He had an idea for an app. Got it created. Marketed it and it appears to have gone viral. Made a load of money from it and is now working on the exit strategy.

I'm sure there will be Joel Comm's software launch at a later stage -

How I made 1.5 million (if he manages to sell the site) from a simple $x app......

Goodness - with my childish and puerile nature it appears I have all I need to make an absolute fortune.....

I must confess, it is humorous to watch people talk about who they think I am or what they perceive that I have done.

We had the idea for iFart in a staff meeting when Apple announced the SDK for iPhone. It had nothing to do with the Pull My Finger people.

We never had to "duke it out" in court. We actually settled before Jon Stewart's people contacted us. We just went through with it because it was fun and it was great publicity.

I have received $500,000 from Apple for iFart sales. It's true.

And can you imagine the publicity a large corporation could milk if they bought iFart? Any savvy PR person could get way more than $1,000,000 of press out of a purchase. Just depends if anyone wants to take that risk.

As for why I am selling it, it's all right there in the auction. Life is seasons and I am moving to a new season. Time to unload some properties. Also selling off some web sites. This is so I can focus on my new projects.

          All is well. :-)

Are you sure your a marketer? I really did think that finding a "want" of a market and covering that market, was smart marketing.

Your calling someone a child, for coming up with a product that made him over $500k.

He's a child for making a successful app.

Do you not see anything wrong with that statement?

Nothing wrong with having fun products out there especially if it makes him $500K! Farrlley bros have made millions with their "gross out" comedy movies.

Unless thousands of 7 year olds own iPhones, you couldn't be more wrong. $500,000 in sales says there's an adult market for the product. You should be so juvenile to come up with a product that makes that much money.

Well for one thing, you have to know that even if the thing does not sell the publicity and the traffic will certainly be worth the listing fee at ebay, as far as saturation that ship sailed a long time ago, you can sell water to Eskimos, but selling them ice may be harder to do, it is all about the timing of the sale for example, if you had sold that app and source code back in 2009 then perhaps you would have received the million plus more. As it stands now, it is good for some publicity but long term profits, not going to happen,

We at ALOT.com are dedicated to helping you upgrade your internet experience by providing you with the best content, tools and resources on the Web. But we also want to bring a little laughter to your life.

So we know you'll have a gas with the Fart app. Just click to unleash the fun flatulence and watch as it shakes up your computer screen!

The history of the FART goes way back in time. I was 12 when Blazing Saddles horrified my mother but not my Dad. He rarely said anything unless it was important so my sister and I watched my Dad laughing so hard he let out two big farts leaving my horrified mother speechless while my sister and I laughed and wondered how my Dad could fart just like the Cowboys sitting around the Campfire in 1974.

My sister ended up marrying a man, [some kind of Engineer] who farts for fun with their son who enjoys his laughing fart time with Dad. I heard they even talk with farts around the dinner table. After 10+ years of trying to make them stop and behave themselves, my sister [Foreign Patent&TM Attorney] finally gave up and joined the family's fun farting adventures.

I think the FART is here to stay just like Blazing Saddles is still known for Cowboys farting around the campfire. Get the FART for your desktop and watch the whole browser shake and fart when you click! Try it, it's funny and laughing is good for the soul.

The true auction value stopped at $5,000.
After that, you had people falsifying & inflating bids.
The person purchasing this auction will get an overpriced product.

Just take a look at the bids. There are people bidding twice & inflating their next bid by $10k or more, right behind each other. That makes absolutely no sense.

Sorry, but you are wrong. The product makes $200/day like clockwork. That's $73,000/year. Why you think it is only worth $5000 makes no sense. It makes more than that in one month.

        Joel,

I think you misread his post. He was talking about your eBay auction. He is saying that after looking at all the bids the auction has received so far, it seems the bids after the $5,000 mark are purposely trying to inflate the auction figure as there are double bids from the same people increasing the amount by tens of thousands of dollars.

I haven't even had a look at the bids but just wanted to point out that's what it sounds like he was saying - I don't think he was saying your app is not worth the $5,000.

Anyway, let us all know how it goes.

If Joel is a savvy internet marketer then he has captured leads from his existing customers from ifart. If ifart is treated as a brand then it can work for the new purchasers. Many companies are bought and sold on the basis of existing and potential leads.

not sure that ebay is the correct platform it since people want to have a long chat before they embark on any purchase for that kind of amount

Hey I would probably pay 1 MILLION dollars for this

If I could be shown the revenue I would make off the ADS by showing or impressioning the ads I would sell it depending on the numbers

It is amazing what constitutes Male fun, as I tell my wife and daughters, I tell them this to educate them against what an American Male is all about, meaning we all are really the same

Fart noises make us laugh and are part of the drinking bonding ritual

So it might be all worth it.

When I was with a group of 3 of my friends and I showed them them MY FART AP and played it and had a GREAT JOKE moment TWO of my friends did not admit it right away but they downloaded it and played it....they could not help themselves....now you know what will happen is they will play it among their friends

who are these friends Cops and Firefighters..it does not matter what makes them laugh the bottom line is they save lives

The iPhone market has changed a lot since iFart was hot. Look at the top sellers. All the major players have moved in and it's considered a real platform now. Beyond that, even if somebody wants a "fart" app, there are 877 others to pick from.

Joel is a smart guy, which is why he's tried to unload this. It's way over-priced at $1,000,000 though, which you'll see from the top bid it received.

That's quite a big amount of money. How did he do it and why is he selling that in the first place if it earns that much?
